Hi folks,

I have a very specific problem with Windows 7 build 7100 ... when I try to install programs I get a severe lag.

For instance, on microsoft office 2007, Photoshop CS4 and some other programs (btw, this does include game updates also for some beta's I'm in) the system slows down to the point that it feels like it is frozen.

I would like to state though that the system is NOT frozen, it's just thinking hard about something because if I wait the program will successfully install. Just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about though ... Installing office 2007 I had to wait for a total of 30 minutes for it to install and on PS CS4 I had to wait almost 3 1/2 HOURS.

I was wondering if anyone else has run into that problem and if so how I could fix it.

Thanks
Sablehawk

Hello Sablehawk, It seems like you are experiencing significant delays when installing programs on Windows 7 build 7100. The slowdown you're encountering could be due to various reasons, such as system resource constraints, compatibility issues, or disk performance problems. Here are a few steps you can try to address this issue:

Check System Resources:

  1. System Specifications: Ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements for the software you are installing.
  2. Resource Monitor: Open the Resource Monitor (by typing 'resmon' in the Start menu search box) to monitor disk, CPU, memory, and network usage during installations.

    Disk Performance:

  3. Defragmentation: Perform a disk defragmentation...

The slowdown you're encountering could be due to various reasons, such as system resource constraints, compatibility issues, or disk performance problems. Here are a few steps you can try to address this issue:

  3. Defragmentation: Perform a disk defragmentation to optimize disk performance.
  4. Drive Health: Check the health of your hard drive using tools like CHKDSK.

    Compatibility Issues:

  5. Compatibility Mode: Right-click on the installer, go to Properties, and try running it in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows.
  6. Compatibility Check: Ensure that the software you are installing is compatible with Windows 7 build 7100.

    Update Operating System:

  7. Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows 7 build 7100 is fully updated with the latest patches and updates. This might address any underlying issues causing the slowdown.

    Additional Suggestions:

  8. Clean Boot: Perform a clean boot to troubleshoot software conflicts that might be causing the slowdown.
  9. Safe Mode: Try installing programs in Safe Mode to rule out any third-party interference.

    Consider Upgrading:

Given that Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft, it might be a good idea to consider upgrading to a newer and more secure operating system like Windows 10 or Windows 11. Feel free to try these steps and let me know if you encounter any specific error messages or if the issue persists.
