I had created a network with my XP machines. I'd shared files and the network was working both ways. Today it just disappeared in the middle of the day. The other machines can't see the 7 machine. It can't see the XP machines. The Networks still appears in the control panel and troubleshooting finds no problems.

Update. Now the 7 machine shows and shares on XP machines, but the 7 machine can't see the XP machines.

Thanks.

My network reappeared. No setting changes. Nothing. This is almost as frustrating as having it go away.

I'm sure "I'll be back".

It seems like you've encountered some network connectivity issues between your Windows 7 and Windows XP machines. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this problem:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Network Discovery Settings:
    • Windows 7: Ensure that Network Discovery is turned on.
    • Windows XP: Enable file and printer sharing in the network settings.
    []Workgroup Configuration:
    • Ensure that both machines are on the same workgroup. You can check and modify the workgroup settings in the Control Panel.

    ]Firewall Settings:
    • Check the firewall settings on both machines. Make sure that file and printer sharing is allowed...

    ]Manual IP Configuration:
    • Assign static IP addresses to both machines within the same subnet.
    []Reboot the Machines:
    • Sometimes a simple reboot can resolve network visibility issues.
    [
    ]User Account and Passwords:
    • Ensure that user accounts are correctly set up with appropriate permissions on both machines.
  2. Network Reset:
    • You can try resetting the network settings on both machines.

      "I'll be back"

It's good to hear that your network reappeared without making any changes. Networking issues can sometimes be transient. However, for more stability, it's recommended to double-check the settings and ensure that everything is properly configured for future use. If the issue persists or you need further assistance, don't hesitate to reach out.
