I was surprised that inspite of having an advanced version of the Windows Media Player, the playback speed increment feature of the previous versions has not been included in the same spirit. Sure you can depress Ctrl+Shift+G but that increases the play speed to a meagre 1.4X. The previous version which I used in Vista had a slider which allowed me to increase the playback speed in excess of 2X.

I have also tried to install the previous version of Windows Media Player but the Windows 7 OS dis-allows such a "downgrade". If you know any solution to this problem please let me know.

Thank You.

It can be frustrating when a feature you relied on in a previous version is no longer available in the newer version. Windows Media Player in Windows 7 indeed lacks the ability to increase playback speed beyond 1.4X through the standard settings. However, there are alternative solutions you can explore to address this playback speed limitation: 1. Third-Party Media Players: Consider using third-party media players that offer more advanced playback features, including the ability to adjust playback speed beyond 1.4X. Software like VLC Media Player or PotPlayer are popular choices that allow for more control over playback speed. 2. Media Player Classic - Home Cinema: This is another lightweight media player that supports various playback features. It might provide the playback speed adjustment you are looking for. 3. Codec Packs: Installing codec packs like K-Lite Codec Pack can sometimes enhance the functionality of media players and provide additional features for playback control. 4. Plug-ins or Extensions: Check if there are any plug-ins or extensions available for Windows Media Player that can extend its functionality to include the playback speed adjustment feature you need. 5. Virtual Machine: If you are comfortable with more advanced solutions, you could run an older version of Windows in a virtual machine within Windows 7. This way, you can use the older version of Windows Media Player with the desired playback speed control. 6. Compatibility Modes: You can try running the older version of Windows Media Player in compatibility mode to see if it works. Right-click on the application, go to Properties, and under the Compatibility tab, you can select compatibility settings for earlier versions of Windows. While downgrading Windows Media Player directly on Windows 7 might not be possible due to system restrictions, these alternative solutions should help you achieve the desired playback speed control. Let me know if you need more specific instructions or assistance with any of these options!
