One of the most weird bug I've ever seen. Most of the times (not all the times) when I maximize the "Windows Photo Viewer" window the child window at the bottom (named "Navigation Pane") where lies the control buttons doesn't repaint itself. But the pinnacle of weirdness is, while I monitor ANY child window or the main "Windows Photo Viewer" window using spy++, it works flawlessly.

That used to be weirder than Justin Bieber's success.

Anyone with a brilliant idea ?

The issue you are experiencing with the "Windows Photo Viewer" window not repainting correctly when maximizing is indeed peculiar. Here are a few steps you can try to address this unusual behavior:

Potential Solutions:

  • Update Graphics Drivers:
  • Ensure that your Radeon 5830 graphics drivers are up-to-date. Visit the AMD website to download and install the latest driver for your graphics card.
  • Compatibility Mode:
  • Try running the "Windows Photo Viewer" in compatibility mode. Right-click on the application shortcut or .exe file, go to Properties, and under the Compatibility tab, enable compatibility mode for an earlier version of Windows.
  • Disable Hardware Acceleration:
  • Disable hardware acceleration in the "Windows Photo Viewer" settings. This can sometimes resolve rendering issues. Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced tab, then uncheck "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering."
  • Check for Windows Updates:
  • Make sure your Windows 7 Ultimate is fully updated. Check for any pending Windows updates, as they might include fixes for display-related issues.
  • Troubleshoot in Safe Mode:
  • Boot your computer into Safe Mode and see if the issue persists. If it doesn't occur in Safe Mode, it could indicate a conflict with third-party software.
  • Run System File Checker:
  • Use the System File Checker tool to scan and restore corrupted system files. Open a Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command: sfc /scannow.
  • Check for Third-Party Software Interference:
  • Temporarily disable any third-party applications that might be running in the background. Sometimes, these applications can interfere with the proper functioning of Windows components.

Additional Notes:

  • Spy++ Observation: The fact that the issue doesn't occur when monitoring with Spy++ suggests there might be a relationship with window monitoring tools impacting the behavior in some way. This could indicate a system resource or process conflict.
  • Justin Bieber Reference: Comparing this issue to Justin Bieber's success in terms of weirdness adds a humorous touch to your description! Try these steps and see if they help resolve the peculiar behavior of the "Windows Photo Viewer" window on your Windows 7 Ultimate x64 system. If the issue persists, further troubleshooting may be necessary.
