On the 31st March, I had a critical update for Windows 7 download, when I switched the computer off it installed the update. The next time I started the computer it went through completing the update, but it then says failure to install update, the coputer then reboots and the same thing keeps happening. I have been able to boot Windows by doing a system restore to a previous date. But the update downloads again, and the same thing happens again.
Can anybody help?

Solution
It seems like you're facing a recurring issue with a Windows 7 critical update that fails to install properly, leading to a cycle of update downloads, installation attempts, failure, and reboot loops. This can be frustrating, but there are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue: 1. Check for Errors: Before attempting any fixes, it's important to note any specific error messages that appear during the update process. These messages can provide valuable clues to diagnose the problem. 2. Run Windows Update Troubleshooter: Windows has built-in troubleshooters that can help identify and resolve common update-related issues. You can run the Windows Update Troubleshooter to see if it can fix the problem automatically. 3...

Run Windows Update Troubleshooter: Windows has built-in troubleshooters that can help identify and resolve common update-related issues. You can run the Windows Update Troubleshooter to see if it can fix the problem automatically. 3. Manually Install the Update: If the automatic update process is failing, you can try manually downloading and installing the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog. This can sometimes bypass issues encountered during automatic updates. 4. Check for System File Errors: Corrupted system files can also cause update failures. You can run the System File Checker tool (sfc /scannow) in Command Prompt with administrative privileges to scan and repair corrupted system files. 5. Check for Available Disk Space: Ensure that your computer has enough free disk space for the update to be installed. Lack of space can sometimes prevent updates from completing successfully. 6. Check for Malware: Malware infections can interfere with system processes, including updates. Run a thorough antivirus scan on your computer to rule out malware as a potential cause. 7. Contact Microsoft Support: If you've tried the above steps and are still having issues, reaching out to Microsoft Support may be necessary. They can provide further assistance and guidance tailored to your specific situation. By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue with the recurring update failure on your Windows 7 system. Let me know if you need more detailed instructions on any of the steps mentioned above.
