I just burnt a data CD on Win 7 with the default Windows Explorer CD Burning utility. I tried to open the disc on 2 different XP machines and I got an "Access is Denied" error when trying to view the disc. I burnt another CD with a 3rd party program (CDBurnerXP) and got the same result. Both CDs open normally in Win7. Also, this Win7 machine used to burn discs with no problems when it was Vista.

Any ideas?

It seems like there could be compatibility issues when attempting to open the CDs burned on Windows 7 using the default Windows Explorer CD Burning utility on Windows XP machines. Here are a few things you can consider to troubleshoot this issue: 1. File System Compatibility: - Ensure that the file system used to burn the CDs is compatible with both Windows 7 and Windows XP. Windows 7 typically uses the UDF (Universal Disk Format) file system, which may not be fully compatible with older operating systems like Windows XP. 2. Finalizing the Disc: - Check if the discs were finalized properly after burning. Finalizing the disc is essential for it to be readable on other devices. Make sure that the burning software completes the finalization process successfully. 3. Try Different Burning Software: - As you have already tried burning discs using both the default Windows Explorer CD Burning utility and a third-party program (CDBurnerXP) with the same issue, consider using a different burning software that offers more compatibility options for different operating systems. 4. Use ISO Format: - Instead of burning files directly to the disc, consider creating an ISO image of the data you want to burn and then burning the ISO image to the disc. This can sometimes resolve compatibility issues across different systems. 5. Update Drivers: - Ensure that the CD/DVD drivers on the Windows XP machines are up-to-date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause issues with reading discs burned on newer systems. 6. Consider the CD-R Format: - If you are using CD-RW (rewritable) discs, try burning the data onto a standard CD-R (write-once) disc. Some older CD drives may have trouble reading CD-RW discs burned on newer systems. 7. Check CD-R Compatibility: - Verify that the CD-R discs you are using are compatible with the CD drives on the Windows XP machines. Some older drives may have trouble reading certain types or brands of discs. By considering these points and implementing the suggestions, you may be able to address the "Access is Denied" error when trying to view the discs on the Windows XP machines. It's also a good practice to ensure that all operating systems involved have the necessary updates and patches installed to improve compatibility.
