📎 AI Summary:
The thread discusses whether upgrading a Windows 7 system to Windows 8 frees up the Windows 7 license for reuse. The original poster has a retail (full-box) license and asks if they can transfer the Windows 7 license to another system after upgrading. The respondent clarifies that retail licenses can be reused on a different system, whereas OEM licenses cannot; therefore, the Windows 7 retail license can be transferred, but OEM licenses cannot. The overall sentiment confirms that retail licenses remain portable after upgrades.

Read the whole post before answering as I put some assumptions.

If I upgrade a computer from windows 7 to 8, Does the windows 7 license become available for use again?

The license on the computer is FULL-BOX-RETAIL windows 7 (not oem) , and the license I am upgrading to is FULL-BOX-REATIL windows 8(not oem).

May I now use my windows 7 on a different system?
