Windows 7 Windows keeps looking for update

I just did a clean install of windows 7. To upgrade to windows 10 I first need to install some windows 7 updates. When I click "Look for Updates" in the Windows Update window, it keeps looking for hours and I don't think it is actually doing anything. I havce tried many things, the internet is fine, infact I am posting this from that pc. It has never updated yet. I tried restarting the pc several times.

PS this is very strange as it's a clean install and the first thing I tried once it was ready was running updates. I did not install any programs yet.

THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN SOLVED - it just took hours to find 200 updates but it managed. Thanks.
