AMD has introduced the Radeon RX 9050 as its lowest-tier RDNA 4 desktop card yet, with just 16 compute units, 8GB of GDDR6 memory and a 92W typical board power rating. The card is launching at a suggested $279 in Asia-Pacific, Japan and Latin America, but AMD has not announced a U.S. retail release.
As reported by PC Gamer, the RX 9050 is a much sharper cut-down version of Navi 44 than earlier leaks indicated. Its 1,024 stream processors are close in count to AMD’s Radeon 890M integrated graphics, although the discrete card benefits from dedicated GDDR6 memory, 32MB of Infinity Cache and a substantially higher power budget.

The RX 9050 runs at a 1.92GHz game clock and boosts up to 2.60GHz. By comparison, the RX 9060 has 28 compute units and 1,792 stream processors, along with higher game and boost clocks, while retaining the same 128-bit memory interface and 18Gbps memory speed.
That makes the RX 9050 an unusual product: it retains the latest RDNA 4 feature set, including FSR 4 support, frame generation, ray regeneration and AV1 encoding, but its raw graphics resources are roughly halved relative to the RX 9060. Those features may help at 1080p, particularly in esports titles, but they cannot erase the limits of a 16-CU GPU in newer AAA games.
ASRock has announced Challenger editions, and reporting from ComputerBase and other hardware outlets corroborates the 16-CU design, 2.60GHz boost clock and 92W board-power figure.

The 4GB version is real, but not for retail​

The more concerning configuration is a 4GB RX 9050 reportedly intended only for OEM PCs. AMD’s public product material centers on an 8GB model, while PC Gamer reports that Wccftech was told by AMD that the 4GB card exists but will not be sold separately.
That distinction matters for PC buyers. A 4GB card may be tolerable in an inexpensive prebuilt aimed at older games or low-detail esports play, but it is a poor fit for modern Windows gaming systems expected to run current releases at 1080p. Buyers comparing prebuilt specifications should check the listed VRAM capacity rather than assuming every RX 9050 carries 8GB.

Price will decide whether the card has a purpose​

At $279, the 8GB RX 9050 enters a difficult segment. AMD is positioning it as an efficient 1080p upgrade with current-generation rendering features, but the price leaves little room for the performance compromises implied by its cut-down shader count.
For U.S. system builders, the immediate practical outcome is limited: AMD has not committed the RX 9050 to local retail channels. For OEM shoppers in the regions where it is offered, the crucial line on the spec sheet is not RDNA 4—it is whether the machine contains the 8GB card or the OEM-only 4GB version.
