Sealime’s newly announced Heatwarped has a free Windows PC demo on Steam, but the most useful detail for prospective players is not the game’s obvious Need for Speed Underground inspiration: its published PC requirements have already changed in a material way. DSOGaming’s August 22 report lists DirectX as the game’s default graphics API and says the recommended specification needs 12GB of RAM. Steam’s current official store listing instead identifies Vulkan as the default API and calls for 8GB of RAM at the recommended tier.

That is a small discrepancy on paper, but it changes the practical advice for PC players testing an unreleased racing game. Steam is Sealime’s first-party distribution page and should be treated as the current record, while DSOGaming accurately reflects the requirements it saw at publication. Sealime has not explained the difference, so players should not assume that a DirectX 11-only setup, or a system with 8GB of memory, will necessarily behave the same as the earlier report suggested.

Heatwarped is an open-world arcade street racer set in a stylized 2000s-era city called Ratfield. Sealime describes a progression centered on street races, vehicle customization, reputation, and contacts reached through an in-game PDA racing forum. The visual direction is deliberately low-poly and colorful, borrowing heavily from the night-racing mood, neon signage, modified-car culture, and menu-era presentation associated with Electronic Arts’ 2003 and 2004 Need for Speed Underground games.

The Steam page confirms that the game is developed and published by Sealime, supports single-player play, and has an English interface. It also confirms that the demo is currently downloadable even though the game itself is marked “To be announced,” with no full-release window.

That distinction needs to be clear. A demo is available; a launch date is not. The Steam listing does not identify an early-access plan, a final feature list, online modes, controller support details, Steam Deck status, or the scope of the demo relative to the finished game. The trailer and store text establish the intended tone, but they do not establish how much of Ratfield, its car roster, customization system, or career structure will make it into version 1.0.

For a small independent game, the demo is therefore best treated as a technical and handling test, not as a promise that the shipping game will arrive soon.


Steam’s current requirements contradict the initial report​

The original requirements published by DSOGaming set out two target configurations. The minimum tier called for Windows 10 64-bit, an AMD FX-8320 or Intel Core i5-3570K, 4GB of RAM, and either a GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon HD 7970. That tier was intended for 1080p at 30 frames per second using the game’s “Authentic” graphics setting.

Steam’s live listing still shows those same minimum CPU, memory, GPU, storage, operating-system, and 1080p/30fps targets. The recommended tier also broadly matches: Windows 11 64-bit, a Ryzen 5 5500 or Core i5-12400F, a GeForce GTX 1070 or Radeon RX 5600 XT, and 1GB of available storage for 1080p at 60fps using “Enhanced” graphics.

But two fields do not match:

  • DSOGaming reported 12GB of recommended system memory, while Steam currently lists 8GB.
  • DSOGaming described DirectX as the default API, while Steam currently lists DirectX 11 in the formal requirement field but says Vulkan is the default API in its additional notes.

The memory change is easy to interpret as a revised requirement, a correction, or a store-page typo. Either way, players with 8GB should recognize that it is the current published recommendation, rather than a broadly comfortable configuration for Windows 11 gaming. On a clean system, 8GB may be sufficient for a game requiring only 1GB of storage; in ordinary use, Windows background activity, launchers, browsers, voice chat, capture tools, and security software reduce the headroom sharply.

The graphics-API mismatch is more consequential because it affects compatibility and troubleshooting. DirectX 11 remains listed as a requirement, while Vulkan is now said to be the default renderer. Those statements can coexist if the build includes more than one rendering path, but Sealime has not said that it does. The store page gives no launch option, command-line switch, or menu setting for selecting an API.

The only responsible conclusion is that the configuration information is still in flux. If Heatwarped fails to launch, performs poorly, or exhibits graphics problems, do not rely on an article that says DirectX is the default path. Check the game’s current Steam page and its developer announcements first.

“Processor-dependent” is the line PC players should take seriously​

Sealime’s system requirements include the same warning at both tiers: Heatwarped is “heavily processor-dependent.” That is the most informative performance note on the listing, particularly because the recommended GPUs are now several generations old.

A GTX 1070 and RX 5600 XT are not comparable products in every workload, and neither CPU/GPU pairing guarantees identical performance across all maps or race scenarios. But the targets make Sealime’s broader intent clear: the game is not positioning itself as a modern ray-tracing showcase. Its retro visual style and modest 1GB storage requirement should make it approachable for older gaming PCs, while simulation workload, AI traffic, world streaming, physics, and frame pacing may determine whether a system actually holds 60fps.

The listed CPU gap is also substantial. An Intel Core i5-3570K dates to 2012, while the recommended Core i5-12400F is a far newer six-core processor with much stronger single-threaded and multi-threaded performance. The AMD side jumps from the eight-core FX-8320 architecture to a Ryzen 5 5500. Those comparisons reinforce the warning that dropping visual settings alone may not solve performance limitations on aging processors.

Players using older CPUs should approach the 1080p/30fps minimum claim as a target rather than a guarantee. Frame rate during an empty cruise through the map can look acceptable while race starts, dense traffic, collisions, and fast transitions expose CPU limits. A demo is especially valuable in this situation because it lets players test the workload on their own systems before any purchase decision exists.


Retro presentation reduces the GPU barrier, not the development risk​

The trailer’s resemblance to Need for Speed Underground 2 is intentional enough that it will be the first comparison players make. The demo’s public reaction has focused on the visual fidelity of that early-2000s racing-game aesthetic, but the closer issue for Sealime is whether Heatwarped can establish a driving identity beyond recognizable atmosphere.

A retro visual style is not automatically cheap to run, nor does it guarantee a small technical scope. Open worlds still need asset streaming, AI behavior, collision systems, navigation, vehicle physics, input handling, UI, audio mixing, and enough variety to make free-roam driving worthwhile. The game’s requirements suggest Sealime is trying to keep the GPU barrier low, but its own CPU warning acknowledges that the game’s demanding work is occurring elsewhere.

That is also why the current demo deserves more scrutiny than a reveal trailer. Players should assess controller response, keyboard steering behavior, camera movement, collision consistency, opponent behavior, loading transitions, frame-time stability, and whether changing graphics modes actually improves performance. A game can meet its average frame-rate target while still feeling poor if it stutters during turns or races.

Sealime’s choice to release a demo before announcing a date gives it a useful feedback channel, but it also puts the game’s fundamentals in front of players early. The demo will be judged against two decades of muscle memory around Underground, Midnight Club, Burnout, and later arcade racers—not merely against its modest hardware requirements.

What Windows players should do before installing​

The official Steam listing currently specifies Windows 10 64-bit as the minimum operating system and Windows 11 64-bit for the recommended profile. That does not mean Windows 10 users are excluded from the higher settings tier; it means Sealime has not published a recommended Windows 10 configuration.

Before testing, Windows players should make sure their GPU drivers are current, disable unnecessary background capture or overlay tools if frame pacing is inconsistent, and keep realistic expectations for 8GB systems. The demo’s 1GB listed storage footprint is unusually small by current PC-game standards, but storage capacity is plainly not the limiting resource here.

The critical point is that Heatwarped now has a playable build, but it does not yet have stable-looking public technical documentation. Steam’s current listing is the better guide: Vulkan is described as the default API, 8GB of RAM is the recommended figure, and the full game remains undated. Until Sealime clarifies whether DirectX 11 is a fallback renderer or merely a baseline compatibility requirement, PC players should judge the game by how the demo runs on their own hardware rather than by any single requirements chart.
