Intel’s rumored Nova Lake-S desktop processor with 12 Xe3P graphics cores may need a 65W-class dedicated graphics power rail to reach full iGPU performance—an unusual motherboard requirement for a socketed desktop CPU.
Tom’s Hardware reports that leaker Jaykihn now characterizes the part as the only preliminary Nova Lake-S segment requiring two VCCGT power phases. The claim builds on Jaykihn’s April report of a 16-core configuration with four P-cores, eight E-cores, four LP E-cores, and 12 Xe3P cores, so it should still be treated as an early platform rumor rather than a final specification.

VCCGT is the motherboard rail used to supply Intel’s integrated graphics. Two dedicated phases would suggest Intel expects the graphics block to draw considerably more sustained power than the modest iGPUs normally found in desktop Core processors.
The important distinction is that the rumored 65W figure is not necessarily the processor’s total TDP. According to Tom’s Hardware, it is a power-delivery segment reserved for graphics, separate from CPU-core delivery. If accurate, the chip could offer a far more credible discrete-GPU alternative for compact desktops, entry-level gaming systems, or workstations that need many displays and media acceleration without adding a graphics card.

The motherboard matters as much as the CPU​

For builders, the practical implication is simple: not every Nova Lake-S board may expose the same integrated-graphics capability. A board designed with only one VCCGT phase could conceivably limit this specific SKU’s graphics clocks or be incompatible with its full-performance profile.
That would be a notable departure from the usual desktop expectation that the board’s graphics-related VRM design matters little because most performance systems install a discrete GPU. It could also complicate buying guidance: chipset tier alone would not identify support; vendors would need to publish CPU support lists and VRM details clearly.

Intel has not confirmed the part​

Intel has publicly said Nova Lake is planned for the end of 2026, but it has not announced desktop models, Xe3P core counts, final sockets, board requirements, or performance targets. Earlier reporting from VideoCardz and Tom’s Hardware independently echoed Jaykihn’s claim that one Nova Lake-S SKU carries 12 Xe3P cores, but the 65W graphics-delivery detail remains unverified.
If the configuration survives to launch, Nova Lake-S could mark Intel’s most serious desktop integrated-graphics push in years. The more immediate question is whether motherboard makers will treat that iGPU as a headline feature—or a niche configuration hidden behind power-delivery fine print.
