NVIDIA has formed a long-term partnership with Ilya Sutskever’s Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI), pairing an equity investment with access to NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin AI computing platform. SSI says the arrangement will expand its available compute capacity by an order of magnitude, giving one of the industry’s most private AI labs substantially more room to scale its research.
Engineering.com and eeNews Europe reported the deal on July 29, following the companies’ July 27 announcement. NVIDIA confirmed that it has invested in SSI but did not disclose financial terms; Reuters, citing a person briefed on the agreement, reported that the investment is worth $5 billion.
SSI was founded in 2024 by former OpenAI chief scientist Sutskever and Daniel Levy with a single stated objective: developing safe superintelligence. The lab says it has spent the past two years advancing a new research direction privately, and that it now has work worth scaling with much larger infrastructure.

The agreement gives SSI access to NVIDIA Vera Rubin systems and makes the startup a technical collaborator on NVIDIA’s current and future compute platforms. That is the important part beyond the investment: SSI’s model-training requirements and research feedback could help shape the hardware, networking, and software stack NVIDIA sells to the wider AI market.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang positioned the partnership around Sutskever’s long record in foundational AI work, including AlexNet and GPT-era research. Sutskever, meanwhile, described access to “a big NVIDIA computer” as the missing scale for work SSI has already conducted.
For enterprise IT, this is another sign that NVIDIA is binding major frontier-model labs to its next-generation infrastructure before those platforms become ordinary cloud capacity. Vera Rubin is not merely being marketed as a faster GPU generation; NVIDIA is using early access, capital, and co-development agreements to secure high-value workloads that can validate its full AI factory architecture.

The Deal Does Not Change Windows PCs — Yet​

There is no announced Windows client feature, Copilot integration, or consumer hardware product attached to the SSI partnership. Vera Rubin is data-center infrastructure, and SSI remains a research lab rather than a vendor shipping desktop software or enterprise AI services.
The practical Windows implication is indirect. AI features arriving in Windows, Microsoft 365, Azure, and third-party applications increasingly depend on the same increasingly concentrated supply chain of NVIDIA accelerators, high-speed networking, storage, and power-heavy data centers. Deals like this can tighten the relationship between frontier AI research and NVIDIA’s platform road map, potentially influencing what capabilities later become available through cloud-hosted tools.
The immediate milestone is SSI’s compute expansion and the start of technical work with NVIDIA. What SSI produces with that capacity remains undisclosed — a deliberate reminder that the partnership is a major infrastructure commitment, not yet evidence of a new model or product.
