Samsung Wallet version 6.6.97 is rolling out with a visual refresh aligned to One UI 8.5 and a new in-app country-switching option that could reduce the friction for Galaxy owners who travel between supported markets.
As reported by SamMobile, the update is being released in phases to Galaxy devices running One UI 8.5 and One UI 9.0. Availability will therefore vary by device, region, and Galaxy Store rollout timing.
The redesigned Wallet interface adopts the visual language Samsung is using across One UI 8.5, continuing the company’s effort to make first-party apps look less like separate products. For users, this is primarily a consistency update rather than a change to tap-to-pay behavior or card provisioning.
That matters because Wallet is an app people open in time-sensitive moments: at a checkout terminal, while boarding a flight, or when retrieving an ID or pass. A familiar layout across Samsung’s apps can make the service easier to navigate, but it also raises the importance of a gradual rollout that does not disrupt payment credentials.
According to SamMobile, the feature is intended to expose country-specific payment options without the previous level of regional friction. It should not be treated as a promise that every card, digital ID, transit pass, or payment method will work after a switch; issuer support and Samsung’s country-by-country Wallet availability still determine what appears.
For Windows users who use Samsung’s Phone Link integration or move between a Galaxy handset and a Windows PC, the change is not directly desktop-facing. But it is relevant to the broader cross-device identity and payment experience: regional Wallet configuration is increasingly part of how people manage passes, cards, and credentials attached to a mobile device.
The biometric option is the clearer user-facing improvement. It can replace or reduce reliance on a payment PIN for eligible lower-value UPI transactions, using the Galaxy device’s enrolled biometric authentication. As with any payment-authentication change, users should confirm their Wallet settings and understand that bank, merchant, and regulatory conditions can still affect a transaction.
The API 2.0 support is more infrastructure-oriented, but it positions Samsung Wallet to work with the newer UPI integration model rather than leaving Indian users on an older payment path.
Samsung has not indicated a single completion date for the rollout. Galaxy owners should look for Samsung Wallet 6.6.97 in the Galaxy Store over the coming days, while treating regional payment features as dependent on their market and enrolled financial institution.

A Wallet UI that follows Samsung’s newer software

Country switching is the broader practical change
The most consequential new feature is the ability to change the Wallet country within the app. Samsung has historically tied Wallet features and payment support closely to region, creating complications for users moving between markets or relying on different regional services.According to SamMobile, the feature is intended to expose country-specific payment options without the previous level of regional friction. India receives two UPI-focused additions
Version 6.6.97 also adds biometric authorization for Unified Payments Interface transactions up to INR 5,000 in India, alongside support for UPI Payment Interface API 2.0.The biometric option is the clearer user-facing improvement.
