Tesla’s Canadian Model Y delivery estimates have stretched from weeks to December 2026 or January 2027, according to reporting from eletric-vehicles.com, creating a five-month-or-longer wait for buyers configuring a new vehicle on Tesla’s site.
The rear-wheel-drive Model Y and Model Y Performance are showing December 2026-to-January 2027 windows, while the all-wheel-drive version is listed for December 2026. That is a sharp reversal from March, when the lower-spec variants reportedly carried four-to-six-week estimates and the Performance model was expected in April or May.
Tesla’s Canadian Model Y supply is now tied to Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg in Grünheide, Germany, rather than Fremont or Texas. The shift followed Canada’s tariffs on U.S.-origin auto imports, which made American-built Teslas substantially more expensive to bring across the border.
The German sourcing arrangement reportedly helped Tesla cut Model Y pricing in Canada by roughly C$20,000. But it also adds an ocean-shipping leg and puts Canadian allocations behind demand from other markets supplied by Berlin.
Tesla has not published a detailed explanation for the latest delivery-date movement. Still, the gap between spring delivery estimates and the current December-to-January range indicates that Canadian demand and production allocation are now running ahead of available inbound inventory.
Eligibility is limited to vehicles made in Canada or imported from countries with which Canada has a free-trade agreement. That gives Berlin-built Model Ys an advantage over U.S.-built alternatives while current trade measures remain in place.
For prospective buyers, that combination creates an awkward trade-off: a cheaper, potentially rebate-eligible Model Y may now require committing to a delivery window extending into 2027. Buyers who need a vehicle this year will likely have to watch Tesla’s existing-inventory listings, where availability can differ sharply from custom-order estimates.
That leaves Tesla’s two core Canadian volume products dependent on overseas factories: Berlin for the Model Y and Shanghai for the Model 3. The immediate consequence is that delivery estimates are no longer simply a measure of assembly capacity. They are also a measure of shipping schedules, tariff rules, import quotas and Tesla’s willingness to allocate production to Canada.
For Model Y shoppers, the practical signal is clear: the lower Canadian price has not translated into quick delivery. As of late July, Tesla’s configurator is effectively asking new buyers to plan for a vehicle arriving at the end of 2026—or after the calendar turns.

Berlin supply has made delivery timing a trade-policy problem

The lower price also changes the rebate calculation
The entry-level Model Y’s price below C$50,000 makes it relevant to Canada’s new Electric Vehicle Affordability Program, or EVAP. Transport Canada says the program, which began February 16, 2026, offers incentives of up to C$5,000 for qualifying battery-electric and fuel-cell vehicles with a final transaction value of C$50,000 or less.Eligibility is limited to vehicles made in Canada or imported from countries with which Canada has a free-trade agreement. Model 3 sourcing adds another moving part
Tesla’s Canadian supply chain is also changing for the Model 3. Eletric-vehicles.com reports that Tesla began offering Shanghai-built Model 3 sedans in May after Canada reduced the Chinese EV surtax under a quota program. That leaves Tesla’s two core Canadian volume products dependent on overseas factories: Berlin for the Model Y and Shanghai for the Model 3.
