Tesla has signed a long-term agreement to buy power from Zelestra’s planned 140 MWac Lumen Farm solar project in northeast Texas, extending an energy-supply relationship that previously covered projects in Spain. The deal, reported by SolarQuarter and BIC Magazine, gives Tesla a future source of utility-scale renewable electricity as its Texas operations continue to expand.
Zelestra expects construction on Lumen Farm to begin in 2027, with commercial operations targeted for 2029. The developer has not publicly detailed the financial terms or the precise Tesla facilities the electricity will support.
The agreement follows a 57 MWac PPA signed in 2024 for output from Zelestra’s Brazatortas I, II and IV solar plants in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. At 140 MWac, the Texas contract is more than twice the capacity of that earlier arrangement.
A power purchase agreement, or PPA, is a long-term contract under which a buyer commits to purchase electricity from a generating project. For Tesla, it is a way to secure future clean-energy supply without owning or operating the solar farm itself.
Zelestra US CEO Phil North said the company was expanding its relationship with Tesla into the American market to support the automaker’s growing energy requirements in Texas. Design and Development Today separately reported the same construction and operational timeline.
That long runway matters for IT and infrastructure watchers because large corporate PPAs are increasingly part of the power-planning equation for manufacturing, data-center and AI-compute expansion. Tesla has disclosed plans to grow compute capacity in Texas, though the company has not tied Lumen Farm directly to any specific data-center, factory, charging, or energy-storage load.
For now, the practical takeaway is straightforward: Tesla has reserved a substantial future block of Texas solar generation, while Zelestra has secured an anchor customer for a project that is not expected to produce electricity until 2029.

Why the 2029 Date Matters More Than the Headline Capacity
This is not new solar capacity arriving for the next Texas summer peak. Lumen Farm remains a development-stage project, with construction still at least a year away and operations planned three years after that. That long runway matters for IT and infrastructure watchers because large corporate PPAs are increasingly part of the power-planning equation for manufacturing, data-center and AI-compute expansion.
