Microsoft plans to move Viva Connections multi-home site management from the Microsoft 365 admin center to the SharePoint admin center in August 2026, consolidating a key part of employee-experience administration with SharePoint’s intranet controls.
Microsoft 365 Roadmap item 567887 says administrators will manage multiple SharePoint Home sites directly in the SharePoint admin center, including creating and removing sites, configuring audience targeting, and setting the priority order in which Home sites appear. Existing Microsoft 365 admin center entry points will redirect admins to the new SharePoint experience.
The shift continues Microsoft’s effort to make SharePoint Home sites the administrative foundation for the experience formerly branded as Viva Connections. Microsoft’s recently updated SharePoint documentation already describes Home sites as powering the SharePoint app in Teams, while the current multi-site workflow still relies on the Viva Connections area in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
For organizations with separate intranet experiences for frontline staff, regions, or business units, the practical change is where the configuration lives. The underlying requirements around permissions, site ownership, content governance, and any applicable licensing for multiple Home sites remain important.
That should simplify the model for SharePoint administrators: rather than treating a Connections instance and a Home site as overlapping objects with separate lifecycle controls, admins will manage the SharePoint site as the primary object. Teams-facing configuration remains tied to the Home site experience.
Because the roadmap item remains marked in development, Microsoft could adjust timing or implementation details before general availability. The planned August rollout applies to worldwide standard multi-tenant tenants in both Targeted Release and General Availability rings.
