Activation caused an error

Hi all
I upgraded to Windows Server 2019 from Windows Server 2012 (Standard). Windows Server 2012 was activated and I used WS2019 media update to upgrade it.
In Control panel > System, I see Windows Server 2019 Standard is an evaluation edition. However, I tried to activate via Powershell but the activation caused an error.

Is it in-place upgrade from Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server 2019 possible?

Not without having a 2019 license its not.

Did you buy a server 2019 license? The licenses don't transfer between server editions.

Yes its possible but i don't recommend it + as others have pointed out the licence is different mate
