grab a copy of the Vista Sidebar.exe and use that. It works fine for me - even if I maximise the windows, the gadgets are still there. For the second question, I use a gadget called "App Launcher V3". Alan
Drew, Thats nice in theory, but as soon as you maximise any window, it's gone. And with the new "shake" stuff and moving windows up etc, it's too easy to do. POlus it means you have to resize every window you want. In reality, gadgets are set up once and then left alone. Most people I know...
Similar. I have the zip file mentioned. I installed that to a new directory and ran the executable from there. That works fine. If I want to install NEW gadgets, I close sidebar and make sure it has executed. Then I right click the desktop and click "Gadgets". that starts up the W7 gadgets and...
Doesn't work too well under W7. Performance tab doesn't do anything; I get access errors with other stuff (which is weird, because I have admin privs). But I'll keep trying for a while.
You can upgrade 64 bit to 64 bit and 32 bit to 32 bit. You cannot have 32 bit 2007 and 64 bit 2010 on the same PC (even running 64 bit Windows 7). How do I know? Well, I'm doing it now and I installed 32 bit 2007 by mistake.... Alan
I think I have finally found what I need. There is a sidebar gadget called App Launcher which works fine. I have the old Vista sidebar loaded so my screen looks like I want. I can launch the apps I want easily. I just need a MS Messenger app which doesn't take up space in the task bar when...
I think I have solved this. Yes, it's a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit. But I have the Sidebar from Vista loaded because I want a clean space to show my gadgets (without them intefering with or being lost by other apps). When that is loaded, trying to install new gadgets causes the error...
I found a quick launch gadget that can contain shortcuts. Using that in conjunction with the Vista Sidebar means I have what I need. Not perfect, but it's the best solution I have found so far. Alan
