This is odd. Went into services.msc tried to enable it and failed. While I was there I change the setting on installer, rebooted, no freezes and updates now work again. So for now its ok - thank you.

bassfisher6522, yes I did erase the drive and start again. Using it now and its fine - sometimes works and sometimes not. Will check BIOS at home. Cheers
