    You may check the website for your media player and see if there is a firmware update for it. Also make sure your NIC drivers are up to date. And see if there is a firmware update for your router...... Just a few things to check.

    You can open two instances of excel by clicking on the start button and typing excel. once you get two instances running you can go to file and open in excel. There is a reg hack for this, but when I did it, it went back to normal after reboot.

    Do you have UAC turned on? With UAC it should prompt your for admin credentials when you try to uninstall a program. Is this computer on a domain? or is it just a standalone PC?

    click the start button and type this in the search box appwiz.cpl instead of hitting enter, hit Ctrl+Shift + Enter, this will prompt you to run the add/remove programs as administrator.
