    Windows 7 Desktop Folder Appearance

Thanks, Trouble. I hope someone does have a workaround. I have been fiddling with computers for around 30 years, and I'm old enough to resist change for the sake of change - particularly if there is no obvious improvement. This problem is one of two things which annoy me about Windows 7...

    Windows 7 Desktop Folder Appearance

I use the drop-down menu from "Organize" (top left of folder) to remove the unwanted panes. When I open any other folder it has the same panes missing. Same when I replace them.

    Windows 7 Desktop Folder Appearance

Yes. That's how I got the appearance in my Desktop Folder.jpg attachment. The problem is that when I change one folder it changes all the others.

    Windows 7 Desktop Folder Appearance

Thanks, cybercore. However, that doesn't really solve my problem. I eventually worked out how to create desktop folders the way I wanted (see attached Desktop Folder.jpg), but when I set one of them up it changes all the other folders, including those in Windows Explorer which I want to look...

    Windows 7 Desktop Folder Appearance

With XP I had a number of folders on my desktop, simply to contain icons for similar functions and reduce the desktop clutter. These folders were just a single window, which could be set to any size, with a title and an address bar at the top and a status bar at the bottom, and the only things...

    Windows 7 Drive letter changes - Win7/XP dual-boot

I recently installed Win7 Ultimate on the second drive of my main computer, but running XP Pro as the main OS. The Win7 partition was "G" in XP and when re-formatted using Acronis Disk Director. However, when booted into Win7 it is running in C Drive and the other partitions go up the...

Windows 7 Installation fails at first re-boot point

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago with Win7 RC. I was trying to install it on a computer that passed all the Win7 readiness requirements and had been running XP Pro quite happily. I made an image of Drive C so I could return to XP if necessary, then formatted this partition with Acronis...

    Windows 7 Change boot order - Win7 Ult / XP Pro dual-boot

Many thanks to all who responded, particularly 'ickymay'. I tried EasyBCD - great little utility and easy to use. Fixed my problem in a few minutes :p Why the hell is it not built into Windows

    Windows 7 Change boot order - Win7 Ult / XP Pro dual-boot

I have been using Win7 RC1 on a spare computer for a couple of months - quite happy with it. Bought Win7 Ultimate last week and installed it on a second drive in my main computer as a dual-boot with XP Pro. On boot up I get the choice of "Old operating system" or "Windows 7", which is...

Windows 7 Stop showing ZIP files as folders in Win Exp

I use IZArc, not WinZip, but I think the behaviour is similar. Zipped files appear with the IZArc icon among the other files in Windows Explorer in XP and Win7 (and Vista, presumably), but they also appear with the other sub-folders at the next level. If there are many ZIP files, it rather...

Windows 7 Stop showing ZIP files as folders in Win Exp

In XP and Win7, compressed (eg ZIP) files are displayed as folders in Windows Explorer, if you use a 3rd party compression utility (WinZip, IZArc,etc). In XP you can disable this feature by running the following in the Run window: "regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll". Is there any way of doing this in...

Windows 7 System File Checker - A great Windows fix tool.

Thanks for that Stueycaster. I used sfc quite a lot in Win 98, and it certainly fixed many problems. Didn't know it existed in XP, let alone Vista & Win7. I could have used it a couple of weeks ago, but I'm sure there will future occasions :)

Windows 7 Windows Classic Folders - is this an option?

Thanks reghakr, Always Show Menus was not checked - but it is now. The folders look better already!

Windows 7 Windows Classic Folders - is this an option?

 I have spent nearly 2 weeks trying to do a clean install of Win 7 RC, and have finally managed it with much help from another part of this Forum. Now that it is up and running I would like to be able to use it, but the current layout of Windows Explorer and Desktop folders is quite...

Windows 7 Win7 Clean Install will not proceed past 1st reboot

No. They were always NTFS. However, I seem to remember from some time ago that formatting with Acronis Disk Director is not always compatible with Windows. It's a pity the Win7 Install doesn't make the Format option a bit more visible.
