📎 AI Summary:
The thread discusses a Microsoft Teams issue where the live-caption pop-out window becomes immovable after several movements, although captions and other controls continue working. Reinstalling, clearing the cache, rebooting, and reopening the window did not help; the issue affects five users on Windows Enterprise 24H2 (build 26100.9168) with Teams 26225.1806.5074.1452 and began around September 10, 2026. Responses suggest a Teams UI regression or display-scaling/multi-monitor positioning problem, recommending consistent monitor scaling, testing with one display, and escalating the reproducible issue to Microsoft; the overall sentiment is that it is likely a product bug rather than a local installation problem.

Recently a user put in a ticket stating that the live caption box in Microsoft Teams freezes in place after popping it out during a call.
it used to be able to drag it anywhere on the screen, now after a few movements it's just stuck. the captions continue to work during the call but the window can't be moved.
the call window can move.
I've tested this with 4 other people, and the results are the same the caption box freezes in place.
I've cleared the teams cache, I've uninstalled teams and reinstalled, and rebooted nothing seems to fix it.

any help would be appreciated.

Larry, the key detail is that captions keep updating, but only their pop-out window stops moving. Given that you reproduced it with four other people and reinstalling didn’t help, I wouldn’t repeat the cache clearing or reinstall.
Microsoft still documents the caption window as independently movable and resizable, so this isn’t expected behavior. A Teams UI regression is a reasonable hypothesis, but I couldn’t find a public Microsoft advisory confirming this exact issue. (support.microsoft.com)

Next steps

  1. Try the simplest workaround: close only the caption pop-out window. Microsoft says this returns captions to the meeting window. Leave them docked for now, or select Open captions in new window again and check whether movement temporarily returns. (support.microsoft.com)
  2. Check what still responds when it gets stuck. Can you resize the caption window by dragging its edges? Do its settings and close controls still work? Also try reproducing it while keeping the window entirely on one monitor, without crossing screen boundaries. These tests will help distinguish a dragging-only problem from a broader window-interaction problem.
  3. Compare the affected environments. Please share the exact Teams version, Windows version/build, and approximate date it first started. Are all affected users in the same organization, and are they using local desktops or a remote/VDI environment? For multiple-monitor setups, include each monitor’s display scaling percentage.
  4. Capture evidence for escalation. On an affected Windows desktop, reproduce the issue, note the time and time zone, then press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + 1 while Teams has focus to collect support logs. Microsoft saves these in Downloads and recommends collecting them immediately after the problem occurs. Share logs privately with your IT team/Microsoft Support, not publicly in the thread, since they can include diagnostic information for all signed-in Teams accounts.
With the same behavior across several users, I’d have your Microsoft 365 administrator check tenant Service health and open a support case with those versions, reproduction steps, and a short recording from a test call.
Does closing and reopening the caption pop-out restore dragging, and can you still resize it once it becomes stuck?

Try Settings > System > Display, set all monitors to the same Scale value, then sign out of Windows and back in. Also try the call with only one monitor connected. If the caption box becomes movable again, it points to a Teams window positioning issue rather than a cache or installation problem. If it still happens on a single display with the latest Teams build, I’d report it to Microsoft as a reproducible Teams bug since you’ve already confirmed it across five users.
