What AMD actually shipped
AMD's official page is titled AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.9.2 Optional Driver Release Notes, and it was last updated September 29th, 2026. Under "New Game Support," the highlights list six games: Minecraft Dungeons II, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign early access, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, Gears of War: E-Day, CONTROL Resonant, Valor Mortis.
The fixed-issues list covers other games. The first entry is an intermittent driver timeout may be observed while playing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Radeon RX 7000 series graphics products. Both EGW.News and Core Tech Tips report that other fixes address War Thunder and HITMAN World of Assassination. None of the fixed-issue entries names The Witcher 3.
The game's name also differs between sources. WindowsForum's earlier coverage pointed out that a community copy of AMD's release notes lists it as the Complete Edition 10th-anniversary patch. In practice both labels point to the same free upgrade from CD PROJEKT RED, but the official names are not the same. EGW.News used the "10th Anniversary Patch" wording. AMD's main release-notes page says "Remastered."
Section summary: 26.9.2 is an optional driver dated September 29, 2026. It officially adds support for the Witcher 3 remaster and five other games. It doesn't officially document a Witcher-specific rendering fix.
What Radeon players reported at launch
Two outlets describe the launch problems, with some differences:
- EGW.News reported disappearing vegetation, objects that didn't load, black artifacts, wrongly colored foliage and flickering water on Radeon GPUs, including RX 9000-series cards. It blamed the public Adrenalin 26.9.1 driver that users had when the game launched. It also cited TechSpot's view that the public driver could make the game effectively unplayable.
- shattered.io added freezes, stuttering and frame-rate drops to the list. It named the Radeon RX 9070 XT, the wider RX 9000 series and the RX 7000 series as affected.
BigGo Finance described missing trees, black artifacts, inverted foliage colors, and strobing water surfaces, and said Nvidia users are largely unaffected.
The sources disagree on one point: which driver users had at launch. EGW.News and shattered.io say it was 26.9.1. BigGo said Adrenalin 26.8.1, which shipped on August 20, as the newest release Radeon owners could install. Since WindowsForum's own coverage of 26.9.2 refers to a previous 26.9.1 release, the BigGo claim looks doubtful. Either way, users were on whatever came before 26.9.2.
BigGo also explains the timing. It reports that CD Projekt Red recommended the Adrenalin 26.9.2 driver, which was not yet public when the game went live; AMD released it later the same day. In other words, the studio pointed players to a driver they couldn't download yet. shattered.io reports that once the driver was live, CD Projekt Red's official channels told AMD users with visual problems to install the latest GPU drivers.
Section summary: Several outlets agree on the symptoms. The exact list of affected cards and which driver users were on come from press and community reports. AMD hasn't confirmed them.
Does 26.9.2 fix it? The answer is mixed
EGW.News says that after installing 26.9.2, players reported vegetation and missing objects rendering correctly again. It also notes that some users still see crashes, performance problems and individual glitches.
Other sources are more cautious:
- shattered.io says it's unconfirmed whether 26.9.2 fixed every symptom, especially the stuttering and freezes.
- Core Tech Tips said it was not treating individual user reports as evidence that 26.9.2 universally fixes every visual problem.
- In AMD's community thread for the driver, one user posted I downloaded the new drivers, but The Witcher 3 still looks terrible. Another said FSR 4 doesn't for me on a 9060 XT. Shows unavailable. These are individual reports, not proof, but they show some problems remain.
Some claims haven't been confirmed. shattered.io says AMD reportedly tested the game with a separate pre-release build, 26.20.15.02, while players were on 26.9.1. That would explain why reviewers and players saw different results. Neither AMD nor CD Projekt Red has confirmed this. shattered.io's forecasts about follow-up patches and Steam review scores are also just predictions.
Known issues in 26.9.2
A new driver can bring its own problems. Guru3D reports that AMD lists several open issues:
- AI Bundle components may fail to install in some regions with limited access to HuggingFace and GitHub.
- Smart Access Memory may become disabled after driver installation on Windows 10.
- intermittent crashes or driver timeouts in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced on RX 7000 Series cards.
WindowsForum's earlier coverage also noted that one known issue comes with an unusual instruction: some Radeon owners should stay on the previous driver. That warning concerns RX 5000-series owners who play War Thunder. If that's you, read the known-issues section before upgrading.
On Windows 10, it's worth checking that Smart Access Memory is still on after the install. Losing it could cost you some performance, and you might wrongly blame the game.
How to install it
- Check what kind of PC you have. AMD says 26.9.2 is a notebook reference graphics driver with limited support for system vendor specific features. On laptops, all-in-ones and handhelds, check the manufacturer's driver channel first.
- Get it manually. WindowsForum's earlier coverage says you can get it through the AMD Software app or from AMD's support site. TweakTown notes it's a non-WHQL 'Optional Driver Release,' so you'll need to download and install it manually. If your AMD Software is set to recommended drivers only, it may not offer 26.9.2. Avoid third-party mirrors.
- Confirm the version. After rebooting, open AMD Software and check that it reports 26.9.2. On Windows 10, also check that Smart Access Memory is still enabled.
- Test the problem areas. Load a save with thick foliage and water and look for missing trees, black artifacts or flickering.
- If problems remain, write down the details. Note your GPU model, Windows version, driver version and the exact symptom before posting on AMD's community forums or contacting CD Projekt Red support.
- Rolling back. If 26.9.2 causes new problems, use AMD's official uninstall guidance. If you're an RX 5000 War Thunder player covered by AMD's warning, stay on the previous driver.
Analysis: good timing, rough rollout
AMD technically released the support driver on launch day. Players who started the game that morning were still stuck on older drivers, while CD Projekt Red was already pointing them to 26.9.2. That's why the problems got so much attention.
Some of the criticism goes too far. Big engine updates regularly need driver-side changes, and Nvidia has had its share of launch-day driver trouble. Still, releasing a game driver as "optional" and non-WHQL on the day a major title launches means players have to install it themselves. As the earlier WindowsForum coverage noted, AMD has published no performance numbers, so there's no official data on how much 26.9.2 improves the game.
The bottom line
- The driver: Adrenalin 26.9.2 is an optional driver dated September 29, 2026. It officially adds support for the Witcher 3 remaster and five other games.
- The fix: Many players report the worst visual bugs are gone, but AMD's notes don't list a Witcher fix and some users still have problems.
- What to do: Desktop Radeon owners should install it before playing. Laptop and handheld owners should check their manufacturer's drivers first. Windows 10 users should confirm Smart Access Memory is still on afterward.
