According to Guru3D, AMD has released Adrenalin Edition 26.9.2, an optional driver update dated September 29, 2026. You can get it through the AMD Software app or from AMD's support site.
What's new: six games get driver support
The driver adds support for these games:
- Minecraft Dungeons II
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, specifically early access to the campaign
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered
- Gears of War: E-Day
- CONTROL Resonant
- Valor Mortis
Guru3D confirms that new supported titles include Minecraft Dungeons II, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, Gears of War: E-Day, CONTROL Resonant, and Valor Mortis. The driver also adds support for early access to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign.
The Witcher entry is labelled differently depending on the source. Neowin and Guru3D call it the Remastered edition. A community copy of AMD's release notes lists it as the Complete Edition 10th-anniversary patch. In practice both labels point to the same free upgrade from CD PROJEKT RED, but the official names are not the same.
As with 26.9.1, AMD has published no performance numbers. Guru3D notes that AMD does not provide performance benchmarks in the release notes, so the additions indicate driver support rather than a guaranteed frame-rate improvement. "Support" here means AMD has validated the games. It doesn't promise a specific frame-rate gain.
Section summary: Six titles get launch support. Nobody has published numbers on how much faster they'll run.
Why the Witcher 3 support matters on launch day
The Witcher 3 remaster came out on the same day as the driver, and it makes big changes to the rendering engine. According to CD PROJEKT RED's patch overview, the update:
- adds native DirectX 12 rendering with multithreading
- adds Ground Truth Ambient Occlusion (GTAO) and ray-traced local shadows
- updates screen-space reflections, screen-space shadows, tone mapping and the HDR calibration panel
- adds path tracing on PC
For Radeon owners, the main addition is AMD FSR 4, including Frame Generation and Anti-Lag 2. CD PROJEKT RED says FSR 4 works on Radeon RX 7000 Series and newer cards. On older GPUs, the game falls back to FSR 2.
The remaster is available on Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store and Battle.net, plus PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. Anyone who already owns the game gets a free upgrade on the same platform. The PC section of CD PROJEKT RED's notes also tells players to install the latest graphics drivers.
Two game-side changes aren't about the driver but are worth knowing:
- The system requirements have changed. CD PROJEKT RED published the new table as an image, so check it before you assume an older card is still enough.
- The redesigned skill tree resets your skill points.
Fixed issues in 26.9.2
AMD lists four resolved problems. Each one is limited to a particular game, GPU generation or configuration:
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: intermittent driver timeouts on Radeon RX 7000 Series.
- War Thunder: intermittent driver timeouts on Radeon RX 6000 Series, in DirectX 12 mode with Instant Replay and Borderless Region Capture both turned on.
- Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy: Anti-Lag 2 may show as inactive in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition after disabling Frame Generation.
- HITMAN World of Assassination: intermittent driver timeout or system freeze may be observed while playing HITMAN™ World of Assassination on Radeon™ RX 9000 series graphics products.
The Anti-Lag 2 fix is a known issue that finally got resolved. AMD's forum post for 26.9.1 had listed it as open: Anti-Lag 2 may show as inactive in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition after disabling Frame Generation in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.
These fixes cover the exact conditions AMD describes. If you see a timeout under a different setup, it may have a different cause.
Section summary: The fixes cover RX 6000, RX 7000 and RX 9000 cards, and each is tied to a specific game or configuration.
Known issues still open
AMD's official release notes list four open problems:
- Failure to install may be observed while installing AI Bundle components in some regions with limited access to HuggingFace and GitHub.
- AMD Smart Access Memory may become disabled after driver installation on Windows® 10 systems.
- Intermittent application crash or driver timeout may be observed while playing Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced on Radeon™ RX 7000 series graphics products.
- Intermittent driver timeout may be observed while playing War Thunder on Radeon™ RX 5000 series graphics products. Users experiencing this issue are recommended to install AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.9.1.
The Smart Access Memory bug on Windows 10 carries over from the last release. AMD's 26.9.1 forum post had already listed that AMD Smart Access Memory may become disabled after driver installation on Windows® 10 systems. If you're still on Windows 10 with a Radeon card, re-check this after every driver update for now.
Don't confuse the two War Thunder entries:
| Item | GPUs affected | Conditions | Status in 26.9.2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| War Thunder timeout | RX 6000 Series | DX12, with Instant Replay and Borderless Region Capture on | Fixed |
| War Thunder timeout | RX 5000 Series | Intermittent timeout, no conditions given | Known issue; AMD advises using 26.9.1 |
The advice to roll back applies only to RX 5000 owners who actually hit the War Thunder timeout. Other Radeon users have no reason to skip this driver because of it.
Version details and platform limits
AMD's release notes give the build details: AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.9.2 Driver Version 26.20.15.02 for Windows® 10 and Windows® 11 (Windows Driver Store Version 32.0.32015.2008). For comparison, AMD's 26.9.1 notes list Driver Version 26.10.41.03 for Windows® 10 and Windows® 11 (Windows Driver Store Version 32.0.31041.3013). That makes it easy to tell in Device Manager which driver you're actually running.
There are also a few limits on where AMD's package applies:
- Laptops: AMD says 26.9.2 is a notebook reference graphics driver with limited support for system vendor specific features. AMD recommends OEM-provided drivers which are customized and validated for their system-specific features and optimizations.
- Handheld gaming PCs: AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition does not include support for handheld gaming devices. Users should check with the OEM for device specific drivers.
- Operating systems: Operating System support may vary depending on your specific AMD Radeon product.
Should you install it?
- You're about to play one of the six supported games: it's worth installing. It matters most for The Witcher 3 remaster, since that game now uses a new DX12 renderer.
- You play FF VII Rebirth on RX 7000, HITMAN on RX 9000, or War Thunder on RX 6000 with the capture features on: install it, because it fixes your problem.
- You have an RX 5000 card and War Thunder timeouts: stay on or go back to 26.9.1.
- You're on Windows 10: after installing, check that Smart Access Memory is still on in AMD Software.
- You use a laptop or handheld: check for your manufacturer's driver first.
To roll back, use the tool AMD suggests. In the 26.9.1 forum post, AMD says when downgrading to a previous version of AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, it is recommended to use the AMD Cleanup Utility.
A note from general industry practice, not AMD guidance: "optional" drivers are AMD's faster, launch-focused releases, while the "WHQL Recommended" label marks the builds meant for most people. You can see this split in AMD's own driver history for the RX 5700 XT, which alternates Adrenalin 25.9.2 (Optional) with Adrenalin 25.9.1 (WHQL Recommended). If your system is stable and you aren't playing any of this week's releases, you can wait for the next recommended build.
Bottom line: Adrenalin 26.9.2 is mainly a launch-support driver, with a few targeted fixes and a clear rollback path for RX 5000 War Thunder players. Install it if it covers your games. If it doesn't, it's fine to skip this one.
