Elecom’s forthcoming U3HC-S100SBK tackles a familiar PC problem: plenty of peripherals, not enough ports—and too much unplugging. ASCII.jp reports that the ten-port USB hub will launch in Japan in late October 2026 for ¥9,980, combining seven USB-A ports and three USB-C ports with individual power switches. That makes peripheral control, rather than laptop-dock ambitions, its main attraction.

A webcam, microphone, and desk lamp connect to a multiport USB hub on a tidy workstation. Ten ports, with a few important boundaries

Elecom confirms that each port can be switched on or off without removing its connected cable. Power indicators show which ports are energized, and the manufacturer suggests cameras, microphones, lights and fans as examples of devices that benefit from accessible switches.

The distinction is useful: this is a way to manage connected peripherals, not simply collect more sockets. A switch within reach could be more convenient than repeatedly fishing behind a desktop to unplug a webcam.

However, USB-C does not make this a charging or display dock. Elecom explicitly excludes charging and video output and advises against using the hub to charge smartphones or tablets. It also requires external power; it cannot operate from the computer’s USB power alone.

External power still has a ceiling

The manufacturer specifies these electrical limits:

  • 9A total across all ten ports, with a combined power ceiling of 45W.
  • 1.5A maximum for each USB-C port.
  • 0.9A maximum for each USB-A port.

Those individual ceilings add up to more than the shared allowance. In other words, ten available ports do not mean every port can deliver its individual maximum simultaneously—a practical distinction for anyone planning a peripheral-heavy workstation.

The hub supports USB 5Gbps, also called USB 3.2 Gen 1. Elecom’s roughly tenfold comparison with USB 2.0 concerns theoretical speed, and compatible connected equipment is required; it is not a promise of tenfold faster file copies.

A desk-friendly design, not a pocket accessory

ASCII.jp describes a black unit measuring approximately 190 × 50 × 21mm and weighing 372g, with silicone-covered magnets underneath for mounting on steel furniture. Its approximately 0.8m USB cable provides some flexibility when positioning the switches within reach. The report lists Windows 11, Windows 10, macOS Tahoe 26 and iPadOS 26 compatibility.

Keep the reported price separate from the list price

There is a pricing discrepancy worth preserving rather than smoothing over. Although ASCII.jp reports ¥9,980 and a late-October launch, Elecom’s product page currently displays ¥15,356 including tax as its standard price and labels the hub “coming soon.” These are different published price figures, not evidence of a confirmed discount.

The appeal is straightforward: more connections and less cable handling. The purchasing decision should be equally straightforward—judge it as a switched USB peripheral hub, not as a substitute for a charging station or monitor dock.
