HP has added AMD Ryzen AI 400 configurations to its 16-inch OmniBook 5 16. This is an expansion of an existing line, not a new laptop family. According to Notebookcheck, buyers in Europe and North America can now get the OmniBook 5 16 with Ryzen AI 400 processors, with active listings in Germany and the US. The practical question is which configuration you can actually buy, and what the new chips change compared with last year's Intel-based budget model.

What HP is selling

The market split matters here. HP offers more configuration options in the US than in Germany, where only one variant is on sale.

MarketReported configurationReported price
GermanyRyzen AI 7 445, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, 1200p display€999 at the time of writing; HP lists it at €1,299
USEntry model with 256 GB of storageStarts at $1,299
USConfigurable with Ryzen AI 9 465Price not given in the report

Notebookcheck did not say what panel type or refresh rate the German model uses. These are the prices reported on October 5, not a live price check, and stock and pricing can change.

The €999 price against HP's stated €1,299 is worth noting. Discounting against an "official" retail price is common in laptop retail, so treat the higher figure as HP's reference price rather than what the machine costs.

Specifications that vary by configuration

Notebookcheck reports that both the Ryzen AI 7 445 and Ryzen AI 9 465 can be configured with 32 GB of RAM, up to 1 TB of storage and Bluetooth 6.0/Wi-Fi 7, and every version has a 68 Wh battery. The "up to 32 GB" and "up to 1 TB" figures are configuration ceilings, not what the base model ships with.

The report does not confirm that every combination of chip, memory, storage and display is offered in both countries. That is especially relevant for the single German listing, which is 16 GB / 512 GB.

HP's US store page for a Ryzen AI 7 445 model gives some further detail. It lists the Ryzen AI 7 445 with 16 GB of onboard memory, a 256 GB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD and a 16-inch 1920x1200 OLED display at 300 nits and 100% DCI-P3. That matches the US entry configuration Notebookcheck describes. The same listing shows the 445 paired with a 50 TOPS NPU and Radeon 840M graphics.

One caution: HP's listing says "onboard" memory. Notebookcheck's earlier review of the Intel model found no spare upgrade slots to speak of — more precisely, that review noted the RAM is soldered and there is only one M.2 SSD slot. If the AMD versions follow the same design, which the sources don't confirm, you should pick your RAM size at purchase.

Display: OLED by default, touch is a trade-off

The default panel is OLED. Notebookcheck reports that you can swap it for a touchscreen alternative as a $70 upgrade, which keeps a 60 Hz refresh rate and 300 nits peak brightness.

The report does not say whether the touch option is OLED or IPS. A retailer listing for a Ryzen AI 7 445 model, from Newegg, describes a touchscreen 1920x1200 IPS panel at 300 nits. That is a different configuration from the one Notebookcheck describes, so don't assume the two are the same. Check the panel type in the exact SKU's specifications before you pay for touch.

Neither source suggests a high-refresh option for these configurations. Anyone expecting 120 Hz should look at a different model.

How it compares with the Intel model

Notebookcheck says the Ryzen AI 9 465 configuration easily surpasses the Arrow Lake model it reviewed in late 2025. It also reports that the Arrow Lake model has a 31% CPU advantage over the Ryzen AI 7 445 in its benchmarks, and that the gap between the 445 and 465 is larger in GPU benchmarks. The report gives no benchmark scores, so these are the publication's own conclusions. They don't amount to a measured gap between the two Ryzen chips.

The comparison machine is the OmniBook 5 16-af1037nr, which Notebookcheck reviewed in December 2025. Its specifications give a baseline for what has changed:

  • Processor: Core Ultra 7 255U with Intel graphics.
  • Battery: 59 Wh in the review unit, against 68 Wh across the new AMD configurations.
  • Wireless: Wi-Fi 6E (Intel AX211) and Bluetooth 5.4, against Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 on the new models.
  • Display: The review listed three panel options, all 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz and 300 nits: two IPS (one touch) and one OLED.
  • Verdict: Notebookcheck called it a strong budget option, but criticised its average CPU, weak GPU and weak NPU.

If those two comparisons carry over, the new AMD configurations offer a larger battery and newer wireless standards than the Intel model Notebookcheck tested. They also raise the possible memory and storage ceiling. Notebookcheck's own benchmark comparison does not make the Ryzen AI 7 445 version the faster CPU, though.

Price: the main caveat

The review unit was tested at around $650 on Amazon. The new US entry price of $1,299 is roughly double that. Notebookcheck's article links to an Arrow Lake model at $848 on Amazon. Third-party retailers often sell well below HP's list price, so the real comparison is street price against street price, and that isn't available yet for the new AMD models.

What to check before buying

  1. Confirm the exact SKU: processor, RAM, storage and panel type. The Germany and US listings differ.
  2. Confirm whether the touchscreen is OLED or IPS, and whether the $70 upgrade is worth it, given the 60 Hz and 300-nit limits.
  3. Treat the "up to 32 GB" figure as a build-to-order option, and assume memory is fixed after purchase.
  4. Compare the street price of the Intel model with the new AMD ones, not just HP's list prices.

Bottom line

This is a configuration refresh of a mainstream laptop, and the practical differences are modest. The new models add a larger battery, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, and a ceiling of 32 GB RAM and 1 TB storage on selected versions. The main limits are the 60 Hz panel and, in Germany, only one variant to choose from. No independent hands-on testing of these AMD models has been published, so the performance comparisons come from Notebookcheck's benchmarks rather than a full review.
