Microsoft and NVIDIA have opened applications for Frontier Launchpad. It is a support programme for software companies in the UK and Ireland that are building AI products. It is a business-support scheme, not a product release. Even so, it matters to ISVs and developers who build on Azure and sell through Microsoft's channels. Here is what is confirmed, what isn't, and how it compares with last year's programme.

A futuristic illustration links cloud servers, AI, and global networks above illuminated city skylines. The key dates

According to Microsoft UK Stories, applications for the earlier Agentic Launchpad ran from 4–28 November in 2025. The new programme runs on a similar autumn schedule:

  • Applications open: 3 November 2026.
  • Applications close: 27 November 2026.
  • First cohort starts: early 2027. Microsoft hasn't given an exact date.
  • Places: limited. The announcement gives no figure.

That is a window of roughly three and a half weeks. Anyone interested should move quickly.

Who can apply

Microsoft lists four conditions. Applicants must be a software company in the UK or Ireland and must meet all of these:

  1. They have an established software product that customers can already use.
  2. They are investing in AI, or building products that use it.
  3. They want to reach more customers and grow.
  4. They are looking to expand into new markets.

Microsoft says selection will favour strong growth potential, clear AI plans, and a commitment to developing new software. The announcement doesn't limit the programme to start-ups. Its test is an established product plus an AI strategy.

What participants get

Microsoft describes four strands of support:

  • Technical expertise. Participants work with Microsoft AI specialists, cloud architects, Microsoft Marketplace advisers and NVIDIA technical experts.
  • Commercial guidance. This covers preparing products for Microsoft Marketplace, which Microsoft describes as its online store for business technology. It also covers co-selling, where Microsoft and a partner work together to reach new customers.
  • Two industry pathways. One is AI platforms and software built around AI. The other is financial services and financial technology.
  • Global reach. Participants can explore expansion through Microsoft's international partner network, customer relationships and commercial channels.

NVIDIA's part runs through two existing programmes. NVIDIA Inception supports start-ups with technical resources. The NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute provides AI training.

What the announcement doesn't say

The announcement leaves out several things that applicants will care about:

  • It doesn't promise Marketplace acceptance, sales or guaranteed customer introductions.
  • It doesn't mention funding or cloud credits.
  • It doesn't give the programme length, any participation cost, or the number of places.
  • It doesn't say what the application requires or how selection will work.

The earlier programme was more explicit about credits. Microsoft's 2025 announcement for Agentic Launchpad said it was run with NVIDIA and WeTransact. It also promised participants credits through Microsoft programmes. The 2026 announcement repeats neither WeTransact's involvement nor the credits. That may be an omission rather than a change, but applicants shouldn't assume the benefits carry over.

How it differs from Agentic Launchpad

The 2025 programme was narrower. Microsoft's own wording described UK-based software development companies building agentic applications, intelligent systems, or GenAI platforms. Press coverage added that it was announced on November 4, 2025, with NVIDIA and WeTransact.

Frontier Launchpad changes three things:

  • Geography: the target is now stated as the UK and Ireland.
  • Scope: it covers any AI-investing software company, not only agentic AI.
  • Focus: it adds a dedicated financial services and fintech pathway.

The new pathway fits the one testimonial Microsoft quotes. Edward Beckett, co-founder of Palindrome, said last year's programme turned Microsoft from a platform his company builds on into a partner that sells with it. He was speaking as a start-up selling into regulated financial services. That is one participant's account of the old programme. It doesn't show results for the new one.

Analysis

The commercial pitch is the Marketplace and co-sell guidance. For an ISV, being listed on Marketplace and co-sold with Microsoft's sales teams can be worth more than technical help. That is general industry reasoning, not a claim from Microsoft's announcement. It is also the part Microsoft has promised least in writing. "Guidance" is not "access".

There is also an obvious benefit to Microsoft and NVIDIA. Companies that build on Azure and NVIDIA's stack generate cloud consumption and GPU demand. Microsoft's quotes also describe the programme as part of a push for UK AI growth. That doesn't make it a bad deal for participants. It does mean the programme serves the sponsors' interests as well as the applicants'.

Practical steps for applicants

  1. Check that you meet all four eligibility criteria, especially having a product that customers can already buy or use.
  2. Write down your AI roadmap. Selection weighs clear AI plans.
  3. Prepare a case for growth and for entering new markets.
  4. Decide which pathway fits: AI platforms, or financial services and fintech.
  5. Submit through Microsoft's Frontier Launchpad application form before 27 November 2026.
  6. Ask the organisers directly about credits, costs and time commitment, since the public announcement is silent on them.

Bottom line

Frontier Launchpad is a real programme with clear dates and eligibility, and its pitch is expertise and a route into Microsoft's sales channels. The announcement doesn't say whether it includes funding, credits or guaranteed customers. Eligible UK and Irish software firms have until 27 November 2026 to apply.
