A gaming setup frames an armored warrior facing a ruined city beneath a red eclipse, with PlayStation and Xbox gear nearby.
Valor Mortis is taking pre-orders out of its launch equation. One More Level’s first-person soulslike is scheduled for October 13, 2026, with no advance purchases, while Beebom reports that the studio has announced full-game access through Xbox Game Pass on day one and a 90-minute PlayStation Plus trial with progress carrying over after purchase. Those are two different ways to try before buying—not interchangeable “free game” offers.

For Windows and Xbox players, there is another useful detail: Microsoft’s product listing identifies Valor Mortis as an Xbox Play Anywhere title, with PC, Xbox Series X|S and handheld among its supported platforms. That makes the storefront choice relevant to anyone planning to switch between a desktop and console.

No pre-orders, but two paid editions

One More Level’s September 17 Steam announcement independently confirms the no-pre-order approach. The studio says it wants customers to judge the completed game rather than commit before launch. Its announced US launch prices are:

  • Standard Edition: $39.99.
  • Deluxe Edition: $59.99, including a major story expansion planned for 2027 and several cosmetic packs.

The developer also says free updates are planned for the weeks and months following release. The expansion is therefore a future entitlement, not an additional campaign available on launch day.

Beebom attributes the stronger assurances—no paid advance access and no content reserved exclusively for pre-purchasers—to the studio’s official social announcement. Its report also lists the physical edition at $39.99. These are announced launch terms, rather than evidence of a current retailer discount or stock availability.

The distinction is worth keeping straight. Skipping pre-orders does not mean skipping premium editions: the Deluxe Edition still asks players to pay more for additional content, some of which has yet to arrive. The reader-friendly element is the opportunity to assess the released base game before making that decision.

Game Pass access is not a 90-minute trial

Beebom reports that Valor Mortis will enter Xbox Game Pass at launch. Microsoft’s own listing provides corroboration of subscription availability: its “Coming to these subscriptions” section includes PC-only access and Ultimate. The page also lists Xbox cloud saves and Xbox Play Anywhere support.

The practical comparison is straightforward:

Access routeWhat is established
Xbox Game PassFull-game inclusion at launch is reported; Microsoft lists upcoming subscription availability.
PlayStation PlusA 90-minute launch trial, with progress retained after purchase, is reported by Beebom.
Direct purchaseStandard and Deluxe editions have announced launch prices, with no pre-orders.

The subscription and trial details should not be interpreted as identical access across all plans or platforms. Microsoft’s listing does not establish that every Game Pass tier includes the game, while Beebom does not identify the required PlayStation Plus tier for this particular trial.

Sony’s US PlayStation Plus documentation places game trials under Premium. That provides important general context, but it does not independently settle Valor Mortis’ specific eligibility. PlayStation players should confirm the final offer before subscribing or upgrading solely for those 90 minutes. “Included with a qualifying subscription” is the safer interpretation than “free for everyone.”

The Windows benefit: choosing the right storefront

Xbox Play Anywhere adds independent value to the launch-access story. Microsoft’s usage rules explain that participating digital games can be installed on compatible Windows devices and Xbox consoles, with progress associated with the player’s gamertag so play can resume on another device. Only one device can be used to play the game at a time.

For someone alternating between an Xbox Series X|S and a Windows PC, that makes the Microsoft-store version worth considering alongside Steam. However, the Play Anywhere badge is not evidence of a Steam entitlement or Steam-to-Xbox save transfer: Microsoft’s rules describe participating digital purchases within its supported ecosystem.

Why the withdrawn Steam demo matters

The earlier Steam demo is a separate offer from the reported PlayStation launch trial. In its September 4 development update, One More Level said the demo would go offline on September 8 because its specially adapted levels no longer represented the full game’s intended quality and polish. The studio explained that transferring optimization, balancing and bug fixes into those bespoke demo chapters was not straightforward.

That explanation is more specific than simply saying the demo disappeared after performance complaints. It also remains a developer assessment—not independent proof that the final PC release has resolved every issue. Nor does it establish that the PlayStation trial will reproduce the demo’s content or remain available indefinitely.

The sensible launch-day approach

The policy removes an advance-purchase decision; it does not remove the need to evaluate the finished product. Existing subscribers can first confirm their eligibility, while prospective buyers can assess launch performance before choosing an edition.

For Windows players especially, the useful takeaway is less about promotional confidence and more about access: distinguish the full Game Pass release from the limited PlayStation trial, account for Xbox Play Anywhere when choosing a storefront, and treat next year’s Deluxe expansion as a promise of future content—not something already delivered.
