A first-person sci-fi battle rages as a soldier fires at robots amid explosions and falling debris.
VOID/BREAKER, the roguelite shooter made by a single developer, has a date for its 1.0 release. Publisher Playstack and developer Stubby Games announced that the fast-paced roguelite first-person shooter will leave Early Access and launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store on November 4. It will also be available via Game Pass.

For Windows and Xbox players, the important detail is that this isn't the game's first appearance on Game Pass. It is the full release, and it's also the first time the game comes to Xbox consoles.

Already on PC Game Pass since 2025

Some headlines make it sound like the game is joining Game Pass for the first time. It isn't, at least on PC. Microsoft's Xbox Wire roundup from Gamescom 2025 listed Void/Breaker (PC) under "Available Today" for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Notebookcheck's weekly Game Pass roundup also reported that Blacksmith Master and Void/Breaker arrived on August 19. GameSpot's tracker listed the game's Game Pass platforms: PC at the time.

So what changes on November 4?

  • The game reaches version 1.0 on PC, which has been the only platform so far.
  • Xbox Series X|S gets the game for the first time, along with PS5.
  • Game Pass availability is confirmed for the launch. The announcement doesn't say which Game Pass tiers will carry the console version, so don't assume every plan includes it until Microsoft publishes its usual tier labels.

The launch day itself is reported slightly differently. Steam lists the Early Access release as August 19, 2025, which matches the Xbox Wire timing. Gematsu says VOID/BREAKER first launched in Early Access on August 20, 2025. A one-day gap like this usually comes from time zones, and it doesn't affect anything today.

Section summary: PC Game Pass members have had access for more than a year. November 4 brings the finished game and the Xbox console debut.

What kind of game it is

Everything in this section comes from the publisher's own store copy, not from independent testing. The pitch is an adrenaline-fueled roguelite first-person shooter. Fight relentless machines driven by a hostile AI. Escape an endless cycle. The setup follows the usual roguelite loop: you are its prisoner—forced to fight, die, and repeat.

The advertised features are:

  • Speed and movement: relentless gunfights with fluid movement designed for high-paced action.
  • Gun modding: limitless weapon combinations using the ultimate gun-modding system, where players combine mods to build loadouts.
  • Destructible environments: the developers say destruction isn't just for show—it's a core gameplay mechanic. Blast through walls, collapse structures, and stagger enemies to survive.
  • Choices each run: players pick routes and fights, trading risk for reward.

Notebookcheck's 2025 coverage added that levels are procedurally generated, and fully destructible environments let players reshape the battlefield.

The game is a solo project by Daniel Stubbington, who works as Stubby Games. His previous game was the Portal-inspired puzzler The Entropy Centre (2022). Going from careful puzzle design to a bullet-hell FPS is a big change, and Early Access has been his way of testing it in public.

Steam data for Windows PC players

The Steam listing has the most detail for PC players. The game is still marked as Early Access. At the time of research, Steam showed "Very Positive" ratings: 93% of 2,019 English reviews overall and 95% of 23 recent reviews. The listing includes single-player, Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing.

Steam lists these system requirements:

MinimumRecommended
OSWindows 10Windows 11
CPUIntel Core i5-4590 / AMD FX 8350Intel Core i5 8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600
RAM8 GB16 GB
GPUNVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD Radeon R9 290NVIDIA RTX 2070 / AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
DirectX1112
Storage12 GB12 GB

These are modest requirements for a 2026 shooter, but the Steam community pages suggest performance in Early Access is uneven. Playstack's official bug thread lists "general performance and optimization issues" first among known bugs. One player who tried the demo on a Ryzen 5 5600X and RTX 2080 Super at 1440p reported drops below 60 fps later in a run, even on low settings with DLSS Quality. Another Early Access review mentioned frame rate drops when the action gets busy. These are individual user reports, not benchmarks. Still, the 1.0 release will show whether the optimization work is done.

Section summary: The hardware bar is low, but performance has been a recurring complaint. Watch the 1.0 patch notes and early reports before judging how it runs on your PC.

Price, demo and what existing owners get

Steam details, as of the research snapshot:

  • Price: $29.99, temporarily discounted 30% to $20.99, with the offer ending October 8. That is a Steam promotion. It doesn't tell you the console or Microsoft Store price.
  • Final price increase already done: In August, Playstack announced that the base price would rise from $19.99 to $29.99 on August 22. The publisher called it the final increase, carrying "through to our 1.0 launch and beyond."
  • Existing owners: Playstack says people who already own the game get every update, including 1.0, at no extra cost.
  • Supporter's Pack: Playstack says anyone who bought the game during Early Access, or buys it on Steam before 1.0 on November 4, 2026, will automatically receive a Supporter's Pack. The publisher describes it as Steam-only at the 1.0 launch. It includes the official soundtrack by Joe Ford, which will also be sold separately on Steam.
  • Free demo: A Steam demo is available, and Playstack says demo progress transfers to the full game. That promise is made specifically for Steam. Nobody has said whether it applies on Microsoft Store or consoles.

Which version should you play?

Here's how the options compare, based on the facts available:

  • PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can already play on Windows through the Xbox app, according to Microsoft's 2025 listing. Check that it's still in your plan's catalog before relying on that.
  • Xbox Series X|S owners have to wait until November 4. Check Microsoft's tier labels when the console version arrives.
  • Steam buyers who buy before 1.0 get the Supporter's Pack, according to Playstack. The demo is also a cheap way to see whether the game runs well on your hardware.

There's also a broader trend here, based on general industry patterns rather than anything specific to this game. Small PC games often use Early Access, sometimes with Game Pass support, to build an audience before a multi-platform 1.0 release. VOID/BREAKER followed that path: a PC launch in Game Pass, a year of Early Access updates, then consoles. The developer's own Steam note originally estimated around six to 12 months in Early Access. Strictly, that line in the search results is Gematsu's "Currently in Early Access for PC" note, and the six-to-12-month estimate actually comes from the Steam page, not that line. Either way, at roughly 14 to 15 months, the game ran a little past the original estimate, which is mild by Early Access standards.

Bottom line

VOID/BREAKER leaves Early Access on November 4 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam and Microsoft Store, with Game Pass availability confirmed. PC Game Pass players have had the game since August 2025, so the real news for Microsoft's ecosystem is the 1.0 release and the Xbox console debut. Things to check on launch day: which Game Pass tiers include the console version, and whether 1.0 fixes the performance problems Steam players have been reporting.

Update: Additional details (October 7, 2026)

Windows Report says the November 4 Version 1.0 release will add new weapons, bosses, levels, achievements, and other content alongside the Xbox Series X|S debut.

It also reports that VOID/BREAKER will be available through Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Cloud on Game Pass. Microsoft has not yet published its full November 2026 Game Pass lineup or clarified plan-tier labels.
