The game is out now on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC. TheXboxHub lists the UK price as £16.99, with the Xbox version sold through the Xbox Store and the PC version through Steam.
What you're buying
The studio describes an asymmetric co-op puzzle adventure. The two players are often separated. Each has a walkie-talkie and a unique tool, and each sees different information. The studio's own announcement says the puzzles can only be solved through cooperation and clear communication.
The Steam store page says nothing here is solo. The game is co-op only, and both players need an internet connection and a working PC-compatible microphone. If you're after a quiet evening alone with a puzzle, this isn't it.
The setting is Norček Industries, a retro-futuristic facility. Steam and Xbox store descriptions say the two Explorers wake up trapped beneath Antarctic ice, with little memory of how they got there. Director Kathleen Bowe asks them to continue the work of a missing research team. The studio highlights puzzles that bend time, gravity and space, plus a synthwave soundtrack.
Crossplay: what's confirmed
The developer said crossplay is available across all three platforms. That matches coverage of the launch, including a Dutch report saying crossplay is new for the series at launch. So a PC player can pair with a friend on an Xbox console.
Some practical details are not established in the material I reviewed:
- Whether crossplay can be switched off.
- How invitations and friend lists work between platforms.
- How the game behaved on launch day. I haven't seen independent testing of performance or crossplay stability.
Requirements by platform
Xbox Series X|S
- The Xbox store listing says the game is optimized for Series X|S and supports online co-op for two players.
- It states that playing online on console needs a multiplayer subscription, Game Pass Core or Ultimate, sold separately. Check this before you invite a friend, because a console player without one can't join online play.
- The listing shows an ESRB Everyone rating and 22 supported languages.
Windows PC (Steam)
- Both the minimum and recommended specs list Windows 11, DirectX 12 and 25 GB of storage. Pixeltwelve's coverage also notes the 8 GB RAM minimum.
- Minimum: Ryzen 5 3600 or equivalent, 8 GB RAM, and a GTX 1660 Ti 6 GB or equivalent.
- Recommended: Ryzen 5 5600X or equivalent, 16 GB RAM, and an RTX 3060 or equivalent.
- Steam also lists a broadband connection and a working microphone.
If you're on Windows 10, the Steam listing points to Windows 11 as the supported OS for this game. A mid-range gaming PC from the last few years should clear the minimum.
Price and launch offers
Pricing varies by store and region, so treat these as snapshots:
- The developer's September announcement gave launch pricing of €19.99, $19.99 and £16.99, with a 10% launch discount. Its launch-day post says the discount applies to the first two weeks.
- At the time of research, the Steam page showed $17.99 against a $19.99 base price, with the offer ending November 3. The US Xbox listing also showed $17.99, with a $2 discount ending in 14 days.
- Steam sells a Fan Edition with the synthwave soundtrack, a digital artbook and wallpapers. It also sells a series bundle.
Series context and a numbers discrepancy
The studio calls this a standalone entry. Steam says the stories connect but the games need not be played in order, so newcomers can start here. Returning players may spot references to earlier games.
The developer estimated about 15 hours of play before launch. That's a studio figure, not an independent measurement, and it will vary from pair to pair.
Player counts differ between sources. TheXboxHub cites the studio's launch announcement for five games and more than 15 million players. Other launch coverage, including a Dutch report and a September Worthplaying item, cites more than 25 million players. I couldn't resolve which figure is current, so treat the number cautiously. Game counts also depend on what you include. The studio's site describes the series as spanning five titles, while the Steam bundle lists six products, including a spin-off and Tomorrow itself.
Early reception
At the time of research, the Steam page showed "Mixed", with 50% of 32 user reviews positive. That is a tiny sample on launch day and says little yet. I haven't found professional reviews or platform comparisons, so I won't comment on performance or puzzle quality.
Before you invite a friend
- Agree on a platform. Crossplay means this isn't a barrier.
- Confirm both of you have a working microphone and a stable connection.
- If either of you is on Xbox, confirm Game Pass Core or Ultimate is active.
- On PC, check you're running Windows 11 and meet the spec.
- Compare storefront prices in your region before you buy.
We Were Here Tomorrow is a straightforward Xbox and PC release with one real selling point: your friend no longer needs the same hardware as you.
