Various books and websites advise getting rid of certain administrative shares (usually FAX$ ,IPC$, & PRINT$) to better secure the OS. I've tried several ways to uninstall or disable, but every time I turn off the PC, these shares return. After a lot of searching, I found this explanation.

Let me introduce myself: I'm a programmer, and computer tech. I am anal about everything that goes on, on my computer. I don't like when it does things without my consent, much less without the curtesy of an alert. I spent 3 month beating windows into submission, and now that I've "upgraded"...

Thought I'd try to get some insight here -before- I drive myself nuts and spend hours troubleshooting why I can't get the device manager to start. I even went to the system32 folder and tried to run it from there.

Hello friends
I just installed 2x4 TB disk from HGST. When I first connected them I only saw 1.6 TB per disk and I had to install a third party driver from HGST first. After driver installation I could see the whole 4 TB per disk.
Since I wanted mirrored drives I went on and converted them to...

Hi guys. New to Windows 7 and have a question. It seems my test machines keep going into some kind of sleep/hibernate state that prevents me from VNC'ing to them. All I want is for the monitors to go to sleep after 15 minutes, but the machines to stay on. We do a lot of work during off...
