Hi, I’m having a problem accessing some of my files. I think it might started when I changed laptops and restored a backed up copy of all my files on to the new computer. The old one had a FAT 32 file system with Windows 2K, and I formatted the new one, which is running XP as NTFS. I’m mainly...

Considering the information below regarding the restrictions on a Fat32 partition. The question has arisen so a clarification regarding the wording of the files is necessary.
So, suppose you have a parent folder which contains no files but many child folders, approx. 660.
Each one of those...

Every time I go to backup some files from my Win7 system to my FAT32-formatted USB key, I get a Windows popup message about being unable to copy some properties of a small set of files. This has to do with FAT32 not supporting Alternate Data Streams properties of the files, as NTFS does. They're...
Hi there, this is also posted in the Apple forums, as I'm running Windows and Mac OSX on separate partitions on a MacBook Pro, but it was suggested I might get more help here as it's a pretty specific Windows problem.
Whilst editing the msconfig setup on my Windows 7 64bit partition (which I've...

My IBM ThinkCentre M52 has a small (3.46GB FAT32) partition labeled IBM_service (EISA Configuration) placed after the C: partition. Exactly what function(s) does it serve? The drive that it is on is quite small (80GBs), so I'm considering replacing it with a larger drive, but I'm wondering if...
First note these point:
* I have Windows XP installed on my desktop computer & due to some reason or virus my 5 drive partitions of windows got merged.
* Somehow I was able to get the data out of these merged drives & transferred it in a portable harddrive.
* That harddrive was of FAT32 format...

Hi,
I am new here. I installed an SSD and relocated some various temp folders to an SDHC card to minimize write operations on the SSD (although I understand this is not necessary). Anyway, I purchased a 16GB class 10 Polaroid SDHC card to be exact and it gets corrupted constantly. In...

I've got 16GB now so decided to try making a 10GB RAMdisk and loading a game (DCS World) from that to see if the stuttering problems I experience are indeed caused by the HDD not being able to stream the data fast enough.
However, as you can see from the images below, when I benchmarked the...
Hello Forum,
It's not a hardware issue, so I'm posting it here.
Seems I'm not the first one but it seems to be a recurring issue which is slightly different for everyone.
I cannot access external HDDs connected via USB.
The Device Manager shows a device. Under "Properties, Volume, polulate"...

Full Format is garbage
When Full formatting a 16GB thumbdrive using FAT32 with default allocation size, the format takes 33 minutes and 24 seconds (Same as Windows 7)
Windows XP-SP2 or SP3 takes 22 seconds to Full Format the same drive the exact same way

Fixes a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 issue where a memory leak occurs and the computer stops responding when you try to read a 4 GB file on a DVD-RAM disc. This issue occurs when the DVD-RAM disc uses the FAT32 file system.

I had to use my thumb drive to upload files to a Mac, so I reformatted the drive to FAT32. Now I'm trying to get it back to NTFS so I can use again on my Win 7 machine, but the drive is not even showing up in My Computer.
The Drive shows in Device Manager and in Disk Management, but offers me...

For the most part, I LOVE WIN7 64.
However, I have had huge complications with my external hard drives that has made it essentially impossible to write to a 2 Terabyte external.
I've googled and tried for hours various combinations of 'take ownership' and file permissions etc etc...

I have a new 8 GB memory stick and it passed the readyboost test - initially. But I wanted to dedicate the device to readyboost so I reformatted to NTFS (was FAT32 initially) and now all I can get is "This device cannot be used with Readyboost". I have tried a command line test that gives me a...
