file display
About this tag
The file display tag covers how Windows File Explorer shows files and folders, including views, thumbnails, icons, and file name display. Discussions include changing default views in Windows 11 File Explorer, displaying full file names, and troubleshooting missing thumbnails or icons in Windows 7, 8, and 11. Topics also involve registry settings for file display behavior, such as BrowserFlags and EditFlags, and methods to view PDF thumbnails on 64-bit systems. Users seek to customize folder layouts, show hidden files, and resolve issues where file previews or thumbnails do not appear, often due to codec problems or system settings.
Whether you're a years-long veteran of Windows or a newcomer whose first desktop was a Windows 11 machine, the way you see and organize your files can have a profound impact on your productivity, efficiency, and even your enjoyment of daily computing. File Explorer, arguably the beating heart of...

Folks,
OK, I've had enough of things I can't see. How for example, can I find and view all files
named "index.dat". If you enter this into the search bar, you won't find any, but I assure you, there are dozens on the typical system. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
There're many...
