I wanted to create a new Microsoft Word document on desktop but found that the MS word icon was missing in the 'New' column. Why is it that and how can I recover the icon?

I had a malware that I got rid of, but it deleted many parts of the registry.
I was able to find the missing parts and recover them. Only thing still not working is the action center icon in the taskbar. In the system icon activation screen, the action center activate/deactivate...
so i'm trying to change the icon of a particular file type.
ie, pdf icon is gone for some reason so i want to put one there.
all i can find on the net is 'open up file types manager' BUT how on earth is that done?
am using win7 x64 home premium.

Hey guys, I myself have a problem that sounds simple but I can't seem to figure out.
The question is simple. The "My Computer" icon is missing from my desktop. It's also missing from the Administrator account and I can't get it show either on any new account that I create. I use here at home...
