Here is why i think why we need to shift to flash memory:
Flash memory is faster and more reliable than DVD's (Bonus: no noise & less power to use)

I have been using windows7 quite a while now, and after a few weeks my MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-8505 ATA Device not reading discs anymore and I cannot burn to either CD-R / CD-RW / DVD-R which I can do before with my previous OS, even the one I used during the successful installation of Windows7...
I'm trying to install Windows 7 32-bit build 7000 on a new computer I had just built. Now, this is not because I'm choosing to, but because I couldn't install Windows Vista Home Premium either. I had to settle for something.
What happens is that my computer is booting regularly into the DVD...

After installing Win 7 on this computer I decided to use the Easy Transfer system (using migwiz file) to copy documents and settings across from another computer that uses Vista.
The transfer occurred OK and then required a restart on finishing. From that point onwards there was no way I...

OK so you have lost your DVD/CD drive after installing Windows 7 Beta. Heres how to fix it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11*CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Apparently it seems that this is an age old fix for even XP systems. If you...

I have two optical drives, a Sony CD-RW CRX320EE ATA CD-RW drive, and a Samsung (TSST) CDDVDW SH-223F DVD-RW drive. The Sony is a bit old, but the Samsung is brand-new. Both worked fine under Vista. Neither manufacturer supplies downloadable drivers for these, since they're plug and play, and...

I have tried several Emulators and none of them appear to be working with 7... Daemon tools tells you that it is incompatible, and alcohol just reboots the system and starts from scratch every time it boots up. Anyone have any ideas for this?

For the first few days/weeks that W7 is installed the optical drives work fine, but slowly over time the optical drives work less and less frequently until you cant even see them anymore and it crashes the Explorer.exe.
I tried the optical drive fix that I keep reading about with the...
Heres the deal, I had my machine running Vista Ulitimate x64 and everything was working fine. I upgraded to Windows 7. Right off the bat I found that:
1) My optical drive wasnt present (I did however find a fix for this)
2) Comodo firewall did not work
3) Azureus and uTorrent both didnt work...
I went dual-boot, and now my Vista partition is somehow really messed up. I'll give as much info as possible on what I think the problem is:
My Windows 7 x64 Partition reads under Disk Management:

My Windows Vista x86 Partition...
I installed the beta from MS on my Asus M50VM-A1, dual booting with Vista32. It seemed to install fine, but when I booted it up in 7 it didn't recognize my DVD drive. I looked it up and found that apparently it can be caused by a Digital Signing issue, so I disabled Digital Signing requirement...

When I originally built my current system, for the DVD RW, I opted for a 'LiteOn'. This was because I'd always found them to be good at what they did and firmware updating was a doddle. Unfortunately this particular drive was not so good. To be fair to LiteOn, I think it was just a case of...
