Im running a CIFS server on Open Solaris, and I get the above errors when opening almost any .exe from the share. Doesnt happen if I copy the file locally to the W7 box.

Any ideas?

Solution
The error you are encountering when trying to open .exe files from a CIFS share on Open Solaris may be due to the security restrictions or configurations on the Windows 7 machine when accessing executable files from a network share. Here are some common solutions you can try to resolve this issue: 1. Security Settings: - Check the security settings on the Windows 7 machine. Ensure that the network share and the files you are trying to access have the necessary permissions set up. 2. Antivirus/Anti-Malware Software: - Sometimes, antivirus or anti-malware software on the Windows 7 machine can block the execution of executable files from network shares. Antivirus/Anti-Malware Software: - Sometimes, antivirus or anti-malware software on the Windows 7 machine can block the execution of executable files from network shares. You can try temporarily disabling the antivirus software to see if it resolves the issue. 3. Group Policy Settings: - Group Policy settings on the Windows 7 machine might be preventing the execution of files from network locations. Check the Group Policy settings related to file execution from network shares. 4. Windows Firewall: - Ensure that the Windows Firewall settings are not blocking the execution of files from the CIFS share. You may need to create an exception for the CIFS share in the Windows Firewall settings. 5. Mapped Drives: - If you are accessing the CIFS share through a mapped network drive, try accessing the share using the UNC path (\\servername\sharename) instead of the mapped drive letter. 6. File Associations: - Check the file associations on the Windows 7 machine to ensure that .exe files are set to be opened by the correct program. 7. Open Solaris Configuration: - Verify the configuration settings on the Open Solaris server to ensure that there are no restrictions in place that could be causing this issue. By checking and adjusting these settings, you may be able to resolve the issue of not being able to open .exe files from the CIFS share on Open Solaris. If the issue persists, further troubleshooting may be needed to identify the root cause.
