Good evening. I have an issue with hi-def videos. I have a 2560x1440 monitor, and a gtx 780 card, so I should have no problem running videos @ 1440p, but when I go to full-screen the video switches back to the small screen and downscales to 480p at the :10 second mark. Then, when I expand the screen again, sometimes 1440p will not be available, though 2160p or 1080p still is clickable. Mostly though, it works fine after I re-expand the screen and retry 1440p.

This happened just now with a 4k video from a new phone, as well as previously on videos from PC Gamer. I have no issues playing any of my games at 1440p.

Thanks for any help.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that this is via YouTube.

Solution
The issue you're encountering with YouTube videos downscaling to 480p after entering full-screen and having trouble accessing 1440p resolution on a 2560x1440 monitor can be frustrating. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this problem: 1. Check Browser Settings: - Make sure your browser settings are not limiting the resolution or quality of videos. Clear cache, cookies, and browsing history. 2. YouTube Settings: - On YouTube, click on the Settings (gear icon) on the video player and ensure that "Quality" is set to the highest available resolution (1440p). 3. Update Graphics Drivers: - Ensure your graphics card drivers are up to date. Visit the NVIDIA website and download the latest...

Hardware Acceleration: - Try toggling hardware acceleration in your browser settings. Sometimes this can affect video playback quality. You can usually find this in the advanced settings of your browser. 5. Browser Extensions: - Disable any browser extensions or add-ons that might be interfering with YouTube playback or resolution settings. 6. Video Player: - If you are using the HTML5 player, try switching to the Flash player (or vice versa) to see if there is any difference in video playback behavior. 7. YouTube Quality Selector: - If the automatic quality selector isn't working well, disable it and manually select the video quality. 8. Connection Speed: - Slow internet connection can also impact video quality. Ensure you have a stable and fast connection when watching high-definition content. By following these steps, you should be able to isolate the issue causing the downscaling and difficulty in selecting 1440p resolution on YouTube videos. If the problem persists, you may consider contacting YouTube support for further assistance.
