OLED iPad mini Could Launch in October 2026, Bloomberg Reports

Apple is reportedly targeting an October 2026 release for a redesigned iPad mini with an OLED display, beginning a staggered refresh of the company’s tablet range that would continue into spring 2027.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, as reported by 9to5Mac, says the OLED iPad mini carries the internal code name J510 and could be announced as early as autumn. Apple has not confirmed the product, its schedule, specifications, or pricing.
The present iPad mini, introduced in October 2024, uses an 8.3-inch LED-backlit Liquid Retina IPS display and an A17 Pro processor, according to Apple’s specifications. Moving the smallest iPad to OLED would bring per-pixel lighting, deeper blacks, and higher contrast to a device line currently limited to LCD technology.

The report does not establish whether the new iPad mini will gain Apple’s 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate. Separate rumor coverage has suggested a fixed 60Hz panel, which would make the display upgrade principally about contrast and black levels rather than scrolling smoothness or lower-latency stylus use.
That distinction matters for buyers expecting the iPad Pro experience in a smaller chassis. Apple’s existing OLED iPad Pro models use tandem OLED panels and ProMotion; a 60Hz iPad mini would be a more restrained implementation, likely intended to contain cost.
Price is another open question. Bloomberg reportedly expects OLED to increase the mini’s price further, but there is no official figure. Buyers who need a compact tablet now should not treat an October launch as guaranteed, nor assume the current model will receive a major discount before Apple speaks.

The wider refresh schedule

Bloomberg’s reported timetable places the next entry-level iPad in the first calendar quarter of 2027. It is expected to receive a faster processor rather than a new design and to retain LCD technology for the foreseeable future.
New 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air models are reportedly due in spring 2027 alongside refreshed iPad Pro hardware. Apple is said to be working on an eventual OLED iPad Air, but the report does not attach that display change to a firm release date.
For Windows users and IT departments, these are consumer-device roadmap rumors rather than an immediate compatibility change: the current iPad mini already supports USB-C, external display output, and syncing with Windows through iTunes. Apple’s next confirmed move should be an iPad mini announcement, reportedly before the end of October 2026.
