The European Parliament is testing an internal AI platform intended to steer lawmakers and staff away from feeding parliamentary work into consumer-facing chatbots. The system, called EPGenAI Hub, could reach MEPs and staff as early as September 2026, according to Politico.
The project reflects a familiar enterprise problem: users are already adopting generative AI for routine work, while the organization has limited control over where prompts, documents, and outputs go. Politico reported that MEPs and staff have used AI for speeches, parliamentary questions and amendments. EPGenAI Hub is meant to provide an approved alternative with clearer security and data-handling boundaries.
A beta version reportedly lets users choose between models run inside Parliament infrastructure and more capable services hosted externally. The locally operated selection includes Meta’s Llama, OpenAI’s GPT-OSS and Mistral Small. Externally hosted options include OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet.
That distinction matters more than the model picker itself. A centrally managed hub can apply access controls, retain audit records, limit sensitive inputs, and present staff with a sanctioned workflow instead of leaving departments to negotiate individual AI subscriptions. It also gives the Parliament room to swap models as availability, performance, procurement terms, or security requirements change.
The Parliament’s press service told Politico that its model offerings remain under revision, particularly as open-source and EU-sovereign models become available through sovereign-cloud providers contracted by the European Commission. In other words, the current list should not be read as a final endorsement of any one vendor or hosting location.
The Parliament has previously taken a similarly cautious path with other services. It moved desktop search from Google to France’s Qwant and disabled AI features on MEP tablets over cybersecurity and data-protection concerns, as reported by Neowin.
For Windows administrators, the lesson is straightforward: blocking public AI sites alone is unlikely to stop staff from using AI. A controlled internal access layer, clear data classifications, logging, model-specific policies and human review are more practical than pretending the tools are not already in use.
EPGenAI Hub’s September rollout remains tentative, and the Parliament is still deciding which models and hosting arrangements will be included.

Hallucinated facts, misleading summaries, confidential data exposure and overreliance on machine-written text remain concerns when AI is used near legislative work.
