Experiencing frequent app crashes on your system can be frustrating, especially when it affects multiple programs. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue without resorting to a clean install of Windows 7:

Troubleshooting Steps for App Crashes:

  1. Update Drivers:
    • Ensure that your device drivers, especially graphics drivers, are up to date. Outdated drivers can often cause crashes.
    []Check for Windows Updates:
    • Make sure your Windows 7 system is up to date with the latest updates from Microsoft. Sometimes, updates can include fixes for stability issues.

    [
    ]Antivirus and Malware Check:
    • Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to check for any malware or viruses that could be causing the crashes.
    []Check Event Viewer:
    • Use the Event Viewer in Windows to check for any error messages or logs related to the crashes. This can provide more detailed information about what is causing the apps to crash.
    [
    ]Run System File Checker (SFC):
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command sfc /scannow to scan and repair system files that may be corrupted.
    []Check for Disk Errors:
    • Use the built-in Windows utility to check for disk errors. Open a Command Prompt as an administrator and run chkdsk /f.
    [
    ]Clean Boot:
    • Perform a clean boot to start Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps in identifying if a third-party application is causing the crashes.
    []Reinstall Problematic Apps:
    • If specific programs are crashing, consider reinstalling them to ensure that any corrupted files are replaced.
    [
    ]Memory Test:
    • Although you mentioned testing your RAM, you may want to run a more in-depth memory test using tools like Memtest86 to confirm that the RAM is not the issue.
  2. Check Hardware Temperature:
    • Monitor the temperature of your hardware components using software like HWMonitor to ensure that overheating is not causing the crashes.

      Additional Tips:

    • Backup Important Data: Before making any significant changes, it's always advisable to back up your important data to prevent any loss during troubleshooting. If these steps do not resolve the issue and the app crashes persist, further investigation may be needed. If you provide more specific details about the crashes (error messages, specific programs affected, etc., I can offer more tailored assistance.
