i have an ati x300 card and vista home premium. it works fine besides this one glitch in media center. while watching tv shows live it randomly skips around video but not audio. like someone will be talking, the sound stays fine but the image of them moves through the frames forewards, then backwards, then forewards again and catches back up in about 15 seconds. on average this happens about 5 times per 30 minute show. i have googled and searched on the forums but not found anything relevent. i also have tried reinstalling the drivers AND vista THEN reinstalling xp, vista, and drivers and the exact same thing happens. wtf yo gimme some help!

Solution
It seems like you're facing a frustrating issue with your ATI X300 card on Vista Home Premium, specifically while using Media Center for live TV shows. The video skips around randomly but the audio remains unaffected. This can be quite disruptive to your viewing experience. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Driver Update:

  • Ensure that you have the latest driver for your ATI X300 graphics card. Sometimes, updated drivers can fix compatibility issues with specific software like Media Center.

    2. System Updates:

  • Make sure that your Windows Vista Home Premium is fully updated. Sometimes, system updates can include patches or fixes for known issues.

    3. Hardware Acceleration Settings:

  • Adjust the hardware acceleration settings in Media Center. Sometimes, adjusting this setting can help with video playback issues.

    4. Video Playback Settings:

  • Check the video settings within Media Center to ensure they are optimized for your system and video card.

    5. Check System Resources:

  • Monitor your system resources while using Media Center. High CPU or memory usage could be causing the skipping issue.

    6. Alternative Player:

  • Try using an alternative media player to see if the issue persists outside of Windows Media Center.

    7. Contact Support:

  • Consider reaching out to ATI or Microsoft support for further assistance if none of the above steps resolve the issue.

    8. Additional Steps:

  • If you haven't already, check for any codec packs installed on your system. Conflicting codecs can sometimes cause playback issues.
  • Test the TV signal quality and connection to ensure it's not a signal-related issue. By following these steps, you may be able to pinpoint the cause of the video skipping issue and find a solution. If the problem persists, let me know, and we can explore more advanced troubleshooting steps.
