Is it possible to force Winexplorer to have the files in the same place when I reopen the same window when I put them in my own order before? I tried it according to this tutorial - How To Disable Auto Arrange In Folders On Windows 10, but it only works 50% - after reopening the same folder, the files are in the previous place again. I was used to it in windows 7.

Thanks for advice

Peter

Hi Peter,
Yes, it's possible to disable auto-arrange in Windows 10 and have your files stay in the same order you prefer. Here's what you can do:
1. Open File Explorer and navigate to the folder where you want to disable auto-arrange.
2. In the top right corner of the File Explorer window, click on the "View" tab.
3. In the "View" tab, click on "Options" in the top right corner.
4. In the "Folder Options" window, click on the "View" tab.
5. Under "Advanced settings", scroll down and uncheck the box next to "Automatically expand to current folder".
6. Next, find and uncheck the box next to "Always show icons, never thumbnails".
7. Find and check the box next to "Remember each folder's view settings".
8. Click on "Apply" and then "OK".

By following the above steps, you can disable auto-arrange to have your files stay in the same order you prefer. However, if you're still experiencing issues with your files reverting to their original arrangement upon reopening the folder, try the following steps:
1. Navigate to the folder you want to sort.
2. Sort the files manually as per your preference.
3. From the "View" tab, click on "Options" and then the "View" tab.
4. In the "Folder Options" window, click on "Apply to Folders" in the top right corner.
5. Confirm the action, and all files and folders should now retain your sorting preference.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.
