I just installed Windows 7 on a new partition on my home desktop.

I now get MEMORY_MANAGEMENT and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA BSODs right after logging in to Windows 7. When I get the BSODs, there is no filename associated with the error, just the above general errors.

I can reproduce the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA right away just by trying to change the default resolution from 800 x 600 to something higher. Otherwise, Windows 7 just blows one of these two BSODs after using the OS for a few minutes just by opening and closing Windows Explorer or by generally just poking around in control panel, etc.

Could this be video driver related? Windows 7 downloaded its own video driver automatically, and I tried installing the NVIDIA Windows XP and NVIDIA Vista drivers and of course neither of those will install since it says these drivers aren't compatible with current system.

System:

P4 3.0 GhZ HT
Nvidia 128MB FX 5500 video card
3mb RAM

What are my next steps to diagnose?

Thanks for any help.

To address the MEMORY_MANAGEMENT and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA BSOD errors you are experiencing in Windows 7 after installation, follow these steps:
  1. Video Driver Troubleshooting:
    • Update Video Drivers:
      • Try downloading the latest Windows 7-compatible driver for your NVIDIA FX 5500 card from the NVIDIA website.
      []Safe Mode:
      • Boot into Safe Mode to see if the issues persist. If not, it could indicate a driver or software conflict.
    []Memory Testing:
    • Run Memory Diagnostic:
      • Use the built-in Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool to check for potential RAM issues.
      • Type "memory" in the Start menu search bar and select "Windows Memory Diagnostic."...

      []Memtest86:
      • Consider running Memtest86 to perform a thorough memory test to identify any faulty RAM modules.
    []System Stability Checks:
    • System File Checker (SFC):
      • Run sfc /scannow in an elevated Command Prompt to scan and repair corrupted system files.
      []Check Disk (CHKDSK):
      • Use CHKDSK to scan and fix errors on your hard drive. Run chkdsk /f /r in Command Prompt.
    []Full System Updates:
    • Windows Updates:
      • Ensure Windows 7 is fully updated with the latest patches and driver updates from Windows Update.
      []Driver Updates:
      • Update all drivers on the system, including chipset, network, and sound drivers.
    []Software and Applications:
    • Remove Recent Software:
      • Uninstall any recently installed software or drivers that might be causing conflicts.
      []Stress Testing:
      • Use tools like Prime95 or FurMark to stress test the CPU and GPU to check for stability under high loads.
    []BIOS Update:
    • Check the motherboard manufacturer's website for any BIOS updates. Updating the BIOS can sometimes resolve hardware compatibility issues.
  2. Monitoring Tools:
    • Use software like BlueScreenView to review detailed information on BSOD errors, helping to pinpoint specific causes. Following these steps should help diagnose and potentially resolve the MEMORY_MANAGEMENT and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA BSOD errors in Windows 7 on your desktop.
