I have a windows 7 machine that I use as a 'server' for SageTV (playing DVDs) I dont dirrectly connect to it and the software is stable as far as I did install much software at build and I have changed little recently as far as software.. I recently swapped the CPU out for a quad core and added a little more memory. I got my first blue screen when I restarted after installing the cpu and memory. I thought it might have had something to with a USB expander card not being seated properly as that didnt seem to show up in the hardware list after reboot. Since I didnt really needed it removed it rather then to mess with it further.

All was good, PC ran for at least a week straight but when I shut it down so I could shut off house power it blue-screened again on the restart. It blue-screened one other time on restart and today it bluescreened outside of the restart.

    Two dumpfiles are attached.

    PC Info
    Motherboard is Asus PSQ-EM
    Intel Q8400 (Quad Core) 2.66mhz
    5 Gigs ram

It seems to me the new CPU or memory would likely be the problem. I did take a look at the cpu temp and all the cores stay around 50c.

If there is any more info I can provide I would be happy to.

Hi personalt and Welcome to the Forum.

    STOP 0x0000009F: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
    Usual causes:
    Device driver

Your latest dump file lists hcwhdpvr.sys as the probable cause. This is a HcwHDPvr Capture driver.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes.

    As a Priority:

Check out the HcwHDPvr Capture drivers software (Hauppage? Part of Sage?). Make sure you have the latest drivers.

ASACPI.sys Mon Mar 28 03:30:36 2005 This driver is notorious for causing BSOD's. There is an update here: Asus ATK0110 driver. Look under the sub-heading: Utilities. Approx. 12th one down.

AVG is known to be a cause of BSOD's on Windows 7 systems. Suggest that you uninstall it. Download the correct AVG Remover for your system (32 or 64 bit).
If you have AVG ID protection installed, download the AVGID Protection Remover from the above link as well (it wouldn't hurt to run it anyway). Download Microsoft Security Essentials as its replacement. Re-boot to Safe Mode. In Safe Mode run the AVG Removal tools. Re-boot to normal mode and install MSE. Make sure your Windows firewall is enabled!

Thanks this was really helpful. That haupaggue driver was that latest and greatest but I started with reinstalling that.. Would it be possible to tell if the first minidump was also from the haupaggue? Before the quadcore install I was running the HcwHDPvr through a standalone USB card rather then the onboard USB. Maybe the onboard usb cant keep up.

    This is what I updated
Any chace you can tell me if the first bsod had something to do with the on board usb itself?
    thanks again...

Hauppage, Sage TV and your usbhub.sys were mentioned in your first crash. Usbhub.sys was unlikely to be the cause as it's a system file.
With the Asacpi, AVG and PCouffin issues resolved you should be pretty clear.
Good to make a note of the others though, they can, and do, cause problems. Just not always...
