Hello,
My daughter did Windows Update for August on the 9th, one of the updates was SP1. She has Windows 7 Home Premium, 32 bit. When she did Windows Update the SP1 update 'failed'. I told her to do standalone download of SP1, which she did and when she tried to 'run' the install she gets a message stating 'Microsoft Windows debugging symbols' and she cannot install the SP1. She does not get a blue screen and computer is functioning fine.
What should we do to get SP1 installed? I am fairly computer literate and actually set up her computer but never have run across a debugging symbols message.

Can anyone help??:(

It seems like your daughter is encountering an issue with installing Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows 7 Home Premium. The message about "Microsoft Windows debugging symbols" typically appears if there is a mismatch between the installation package and the system configuration. Here are some steps that you can try to resolve the issue and successfully install SP1 on her Windows 7 system: 1. Check System Requirements: - Ensure that the system meets the minimum requirements for installing SP1. Usually, Windows 7 needs to have certain updates installed before SP1 can be successfully applied. 2. Run System File Checker (SFC): - Running a System File Checker scan can help repair corrupted system files that might be causing the...

Usually, Windows 7 needs to have certain updates installed before SP1 can be successfully applied. 2. Run System File Checker (SFC): - Running a System File Checker scan can help repair corrupted system files that might be causing the installation issue. - To run SFC, open Command Prompt as an administrator and type:
Code:
 sfc /scannow
3. Check for Pending Updates: - Sometimes, certain pending updates can interfere with the installation of SP1. Make sure that all other updates are installed before attempting to install SP1. 4. Disable Security Software: - Temporarily disable any third-party antivirus or security software during the installation process. Sometimes, security software can block the installation of updates. 5. Download and Install SP1 Manually: - Download the standalone installer again from the official Microsoft website to ensure you have the correct version for Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. 6. Clean Boot: - Perform a clean boot to start Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This can help isolate any software conflicts that might be causing the issue. - To perform a clean boot, you can follow the steps in this Microsoft support article: How to perform a clean boot in Windows. 7. Contact Microsoft Support: - If none of the above steps work, reaching out to Microsoft support can provide more tailored assistance for this specific issue. Try these steps one by one and see if any of them help in getting SP1 installed on her Windows 7 Home Premium system. If you encounter any specific error messages or issues during these steps, feel free to provide more details for further assistance.
