Its a home built desktop with Intel Core 2 Quad processor on Asus P5K Pro motherboard. 4Gb ram.
Had Window7 64 bit installed as built. Had 2 Seagate 500Gb HDD. Window Hard drive crashed/failed. Had backed-up all the data on 2nd drive. Now attempting to install window 7 on this hdd.
Formatted the hdd using Window 7 disk before installing. Installation proceeded up to first reboot where it completed updating registry, then starting services - that's where window failed /crash. Message says window shutdown unexpectedly.
I have even tried installing with a 32 bit window and has same result.
Hope someone is able to help - desperate!!! Thank you.

Have now solved problem by accident. Did a complete clean out, removed and refitted the ram. Was able to install window, but it then crash randomly - getting blue screen. Then replace monitor dvi cable connection with vga cable. System has since remained stable for a week now. Looks like the dvi cable from graphic card was causing the problem.
