Solution
Having trouble adding thumbnails to all folders in Windows Ultimate x86 can be frustrating, especially when the usual method of renaming an image file to "folder.jpg" doesn't work as expected. The reason why thumbnails appear in some folders and not others can be due to various factors. Here are a few things to consider and try to resolve the issue:

Possible Solutions to Adding Thumbnails to Folders:

  1. Thumbnail Cache: Windows generates thumbnail caches to speed up the display of thumbnails. If you've tried adding thumbnails recently, Windows might not have updated the cache. You can try clearing the thumbnail cache and forcing Windows to recreate it.

  2. File Types: Make sure the image file you are using for the thumbnail is in a supported format (e.g., JPG, PNG). Also, ensure that the file is not corrupted.
  3. Folder Permissions: Check if you have permissions to modify or add files to the folders where thumbnails are not displaying correctly. Sometimes, restricted permissions can prevent Windows from displaying thumbnails.
  4. Folder Options: Double-check the folder options to ensure that the setting to display thumbnails is enabled. You can find this by going to Folder Options -> View -> Always show icons, never thumbnails.
  5. Reset Folder View: Windows might be remembering the view settings for certain folders. You can try resetting the folder view settings for those specific folders where thumbnails are not showing.
  6. Check Thumbnail Settings: Verify that thumbnail previews are enabled in Windows Explorer. You can do this by going to View -> Options -> View -> Always show icons, never thumbnails.

    Steps to Clear Thumbnail Cache:

  7. Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog.
  8. Type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter to open the Disk Management tool.
  9. Right-click on your C:\ drive and select Properties.
  10. Under the General tab, click on Disk Cleanup.
  11. Check the box next to Thumbnails and any other unnecessary files.
  12. Click OK and then Delete Files to clear the thumbnail cache. After trying these steps, check if thumbnails start appearing in all folders. If the issue persists, there might be a more complex underlying problem that might require further investigation. Let me know how these steps work out for you!
