ok, it's not the end of the world, just a real big annoyance.

the playlist itself doesn't exist. i deleted it, emptied the recycle bin.... it is GONE.

but WMP doesn't think so. it still shows up in the playlist pane. double clicking it does nothing. nor does "open file location" or "delete" cuz it doesn't exist.

yet it keeps on reappearing there and keeps on reappearing there...

I WANT IT GONE!

but how?

Solution
To completely remove a playlist from Windows Media Player (WMP) that persists even after deletion, you may need to clear the Windows Media Player's database cache. This cache might be causing the deleted playlist to reappear in the playlist pane. Here's how you can go about resolving this issue:

Clearing Windows Media Player's Database Cache

  1. Close Windows Media Player: Make sure Windows Media Player is not running.
  2. Stop Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service:
    • Press Win + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.
    • Type services.msc and press Enter.
    • Locate the "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" in the list, right-click on it, and select Stop.

[]Navigate to the Media Player Directory:
    • Open File Explorer and enter the following path in the address bar: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player\.
    [
]Delete the Media Player Database Files:
    • In this folder, delete all the files starting with "CurrentDatabase_"; they are cache files.
[]Restart Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service:
    • Go back to the Services window, right-click on "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service," and select Start.
    [
    ]Open Windows Media Player:
    • Open Windows Media Player again and check if the deleted playlist is no longer appearing.

      Additional Steps

If the playlist still persists, you can try the following additional steps:
    • Reset Windows Media Player Library:
      1. In Windows Media Player, go to Organize > Manage libraries > Music.
      2. Select the library and click on the "Remove" button.
      3. Restart Windows Media Player and add your music library again.
    • Rebuild the Windows Media Player Database:
      1. Close Windows Media Player.
      2. Press Win + R, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft, and press Enter.
      3. Locate the Media Player folder and rename it to something else.
      4. Restart Windows Media Player. By following these steps, you should be able to ensure that the deleted playlist is completely removed from Windows Media Player's interface. If the issue persists, consider restarting your computer after performing these steps to ensure all changes take effect.
