Hello,

When I change my mouse speed in Windows 7RC, the change works fine until I shut down my computer. This setting then returns to the default after a fresh startup. I have tried this several times, as a user and as administrator, but it always goes back to default. Most settings such as desktop background etc are maintained after a fresh startup. Any suggestions would be appreciated (even the obscene ones).

Cheers,
Win7 noob

Hello Win7 noob, It seems like you are encountering an issue with your mouse speed settings reverting to default in Windows 7 after a fresh startup. This could be due to various reasons, including system configurations or corrupt user profiles. Here are some suggestions to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Registry Check:

  • Warning: Editing the registry can be risky if not done correctly. Proceed with caution and back up your registry before making any changes.
  • Check the registry settings related to mouse speed. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse in the registry editor and ensure that the appropriate values are set for the mouse speed.

    2. User Profile Corruption:

1. Registry Check:

  • Check the registry settings related to mouse speed. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse in the registry editor and ensure that the appropriate values are set for the mouse speed.

    2. User Profile Corruption:

  • The issue might be with your user profile. Create a new user account and test if the mouse speed settings persist in the new account after a restart.

    3. Group Policy:

  • Group policies might be overriding your settings. Check for group policies that might be enforcing default mouse settings. To access Group Policy settings, type gpedit.msc in the Start menu search bar and navigate to the appropriate settings.

    4. Troubleshoot Startup Programs:

  • Some third-party applications may interfere with your mouse settings. Try disabling non-essential startup programs to see if the issue persists.

    5. System File Checker:

  • Run a System File Checker (SFC) scan to check for and repair corrupt system files. To run the scan, open Command Prompt as an administrator and run sfc /scannow.

    6. Update Drivers:

  • Ensure that your mouse drivers are up to date. Visit the manufacturer's website to download and install the latest drivers for your specific mouse model.

    7. Automatic Maintenance:

  • Windows has automatic maintenance tasks that might revert settings. Check if there are any maintenance tasks running that might affect your mouse speed settings.

    8. Restore Point:

  • Consider restoring your system to a previous restore point when the mouse speed settings were working correctly. Try these suggestions step by step and observe if any of them resolve the issue. If the problem persists, let me know, and we can explore further solutions. Good luck!
