I have several Excel files that do a VLOOKUP for data where I have to use the file path for access to the source files (e.g., C:\Users\User Name\file path). Since I use Dropbox to enable use of these updated files on two other computers, I need to have the path names identical for the VLOOKUP function to work.

On my Vista machine, I am using the Computer Name for the User Name. On my Windows 8.1 laptop I would like to use the same User Name, which is now different. However, when I go to User Control in Control Panel, I don't seem to be able to find a way to change the User Name.

There must be a secret. Any help is appreciated.

Gordon, Changing the User Name in Windows 8.1 is indeed possible, although it involves a few steps. Here's how you can change the User Name: 1. Create a New User Account: - Go to Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > User Accounts. - Click on "Manage another account." - Select "Add a new user in PC settings." - Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new user account with the desired User Name. 2. Change the Account Type: - After creating the new user account, you will need to assign administrative privileges to it. You can do this through Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > User Accounts > Manage another account. 3. Transfer Files and Settings: - Once you have created the new user...

Transfer Files and Settings: - Once you have created the new user account with the desired User Name, you can transfer your files and settings to this account. You can either manually move your files or use the Windows Easy Transfer tool for this task. By following these steps, you should be able to change the User Name on your Windows 8.1 laptop to match the one you have on your Vista machine. This will help ensure consistency in the file paths and enable your VLOOKUP function to work correctly. If you encounter any issues or need further assistance, feel free to ask!
